DMP Game postponed!!

Game off...

Darlington Mowden Park can confirm that tomorrow's National 1 match between Darlington Mowden Park and Coventry has been postponed due a frozen pitch.

Following consultation with both the NCA and The RFU, the club were advised a decision had to be made prior to Coventry’s departure at 11:00 Friday, the pitch has been frozen since the weekend and with temperatures of -2 expected overnight the playing surface has been deemed unplayable.

The club are bitterly disappointed to have to call the game off for the players and supporters from both teams, for what would have been a memorable match. The club have tried every avenue possible but unfortunately the elements have beaten us in the time frame we had. Not only were the executive suites fully booked and the hospitality sold out, there were also a huge amount of children from local schools attending to enjoy the day at the arena.

Mowden Park’s National One game against Coventry will now take place on Saturday 24th February at 2pm.

Announced just in time to cancel my hotel booking before I got charged for it at midday.

I bet they'd have been a bit keener to play if their Newcastle Falcons DRs hadn't been pulled back for an A league game on Monday!

Let's be positive.

By then we shall have played Moseley, OA, Esher, Fylde, & Cambridge at home
Blackheath, Bishops Stortford, & Loughborough Students away.

That's eight more matches towards the end of the season, and the season over 2/3 completed.

On current form, that's a lot more pressure applied on DMP, assuming that they're still performing well.

Nick - I entirely agree. Furthermore, DMP are away at Plymouth the week before they now play Coventry, two very hard games back to back, plus the travel, not exactly what DMP would wish for.

Sorry all, this is the original thread that I'd somehow mislaid.

Apologies, Russ...

A stadium that size and no under soil heating installed...accentuates the tightarse northerners stereotype somewhat(Sm151)

Have just been speaking to a very recent ex Cov player who knows the DMP Coach and is certain that the game was called off due to the fact that 4 or 5 of the DMP dual reg players have been called up for Newcastle Falcons on Monday! "Can't say i blame them, i would have done the same thing in their position"
Frozen pitch my @#$%&!

Can I change my prediction league forecast? By Feb 24th I reckon we'll be in high gear and I'd like to add another couple of tries to my forecast.

I'll see what I can do, TW. The software isn't directly in my control, but I'll have a play and update everyone ASAP...

Darlington Rugby Club, nothing to do with DMP, game postponed yesterday FROZEN PITCH. Today, Sunday, Darlington FC v Salford game postponed FROZEN PITCH, Tynedale, Blaydon and a lot of rugby matches in the North East were postponed yesterday because of FROZEN PITCHES. DMP Sharks game rearranged to Durham Uni on a 3G pitch postponed as it was FREEZING and too dangerous to play.

The health and safety of players has to come first. I assume a local referee was consulted regarding the condition of the pitch. If your studs can't dig into the turf, you simply can't play a game of rugby.

I stand corrected and apologise for any offence caused, this is what happens when you chat in a pub to a highly regarded ex player who you think is "in the know".

The ladies game scheduled to have followed our match was rearranged to a different ground. Two thoughts if the frost was in the ground why not carry out an inspection on Thursday and give a warning that the game was in doubt, instead of advertising the count down to the game, secondly why not consider transferring the game to the same venue as the ladies match?

Perhaps you ought to be a bit more circumspect in what you post, Duff TTG. A match is never called off by the home team officials, but by RFU officials following a pitch inspection. It may be that the circumstances are fortuitous, in either direction, but you should consider the implications of putting something out in the public domain which you can't justify. Thinking something is one thing, over which nobody has any control, but saying something is an entirely different matter.
I've been assured by our friends at Darlington that any negatively suggestive comments will not affect or sour relationships when we go up there on 24th February.

It was obvious they wouldn't postpone for reasons given. They need to reel us in and by the time the rearranged fixture comes round it might be too late. They were facing the biggest payday of their season, a vital cash flow boost over the Christmas break. The postponement could see them the financial losers.

Changing venues a few days before a big game is easier said than done, there are all sorts of logistical and promotional problems. Why leave it until Thursday....as late as possible I would suggest in the hope the game could go ahead.
