Ground capacity?

Just as a point of interest what is the official capacity of the ground and what is the number of seats in the grandstand?

Moot, I think.
As the stand holds around 3000, and the whole ground is quoted as 3000 capacity in various places, there's obviously a lot of granny being spoken.
With many grounds with far smaller stands (Bedford as an instance) also quote as having much larger overall capacities, your guess is as good as mine.

As it stands though, if you filled the stand and got all three open sides occupied one-deep, it might be around 3,500 or so - but it doesn't work like that!

I assume there is an 'insurance-based' capacity logged somewhere.

I am sure Eric once mentioned on here the stand holds 2650. I imagine we could get about 4000 at a squeeze

I'm sure it's a bit bigger than that Tim.

When the ground opened, the stand was quoted at 3000. It had a few changes made which list a few seats, and I am pretty sure I heard 2,800 quoted.

I have seen 4,500 capacity for the ground quoted elsewhere. I think it was on the NCA site, but can’t find it now.

The BPA Wikipedia page quotes a ground capacity of 3000, which is plainly ridiculous.

In the text it says the East Stand has a capacity of 3000, which was correct.

How is that figure arrived at John please? What's the breakdown of seated/standing, etc?

I don't have the breakdown, sorry, but that figure has been mentioned in meetings.

Did I get this wrong ? The Cov v Harlequins game in the championship was recorded as 4500 ?

The ground limit was different then.

Do you remember the temporary stand on the Broomfield park side?

Looking through the archive on this site, an article on April 8th, 2008 states that the crowd for the Cov v Northampton game a few days earlier was just over 5000. I seem to remember it was a tad difficult getting to the bar that day !!

So, with a bit of tweaking 5,000 should be possible, plus an extra barmaid or two ;-)

Extra bar staff make no difference if you can't get to the bar ;-)

The town planners dept show,
main stand.3,300, temp stand 1,250, plus standing 2.500 approx. ie 7k odd

planning permission is for 10.000

could go to 15k with new stands and park permit schemes
