Jon Sharp is 100% right.
IMO the beautiful game is going the same way as football, the trough is tilted heavily to one end of the structure and the hoggs are wallowing trying to spend it to survive against the heavier feeders and wasting the cash on inflated wages, transfers and doing anything with it other than investing in bringing young players from the uk through the junior systems , which incur no transfer fees and surely also brings a sense of pride to play for the clubs which should be psychologically bigger than the wage packet alone that most mercenaries turn up for ..
The salary cap needs close scrutiny, not just x&y player getting huge wages and the home grown getting coins,. An indepth overhaul of all aspects of the spending at the top level in the Uk and Europe/worldwide

Rugby is followed by all classes and sexes, watched in harmony without segregation, the ones that do need putting behind fencing are the owners of the 13 golden shares !

Being relegated isn't the issue is it? It's the risk of losing 6 million in funding for 600,00. The funding in rugby is too top heavy and in my view wasted money as it is not being invested wisely.

They may think they have the elite rugby players but do they offer elite entertainment. Is it that much better than the Championship or Nat League 1. I was thoroughly entertained at Moseley v Bishop Stortford last week. Part of that entertainment was brought about by the threat of relegation for both sides. Without it you would be starting January with a dead game for both clubs and their supporters. If the Premiership doesn't have relegation then a large slice of intrigue for spectators and television will be lost along with future revenue; some of the gold plating will be lost from the competition.

I don't think premiership rugby offers a

The money issue is the key, obviously. That and the fact that rugby is never going to be an investment for anyone, as there will never be a return on the money.
The relegated side gets a parachute payment as it is, so they will always be on a different level funding field to the other 11 sides, (assuming they didn't get relegated, then promoted then relegated again though I don't think that's happened to anyone yet).

Championship clubs will never be profitable or probably get close to breaking even because of the number of sides in the league and the size of the crowds that are attracted to the games. That we get the 3rd biggest crowds on this league and were by far and away the best supported in terms of numbers in Nat 1 speaks volumes.
