We all know the RFU couldn't organise a party in a brewery so no real surprise in the lack of thinking on this. It is all geared up to the final four - six weeks of the season when I expect TV revenues will kick in.
I think we have to accept it will be a bit of a lottery and hope we get the luck required to prevail in a one-off winner takes all game on May 15 2010.
For my part I'm looking forward to the heart in the mouth moments to come!

GJ So am I.
But how many heart in the mouths moments will there be at the most mouth watering fixture of the season on Boxing day if both Chiefs & Bristol have already assured a top 8 place ?

Do you think the top teams involved in the cup will take that seriously. Will the likes of Leinster care if their 2nd/3nd string team gets knocked out, i don't think so.
Just think this whole system IMHO is to keep us tredding water till the RFU get a idea of a long term way forward. If they care about the divisions future.
But I HOPE im proved wrong.
my comments have nothing to do with any cup, my point is that the playoffs, whether or not they are perceived as fair, make the last games of the season worth something, whether you are in the bottom 4 or the top 8, for me that makes this format better, as does the prospect of competitive games with far less chance of one sided boring mismatches. I appreciate that I may be in the minority, but what's new? Doesn't make my view less valid.
As far as the cup comp is concerned, at least we get to play some new sides, a breath of fresh air in my opinion, and while you may be right that Leinster may not care as an entity whether they win the trophy or not do you think that their tyros who will take part won't want to prove their worth?
It seems to me that there is a pig headed undercurrent in this game that believes that whatever the RFU or any other governing body does can't be right, why not give it a chance and try just supporting Exeter Chiefs in whatever competitions they are involved in?
edited for typos. Message to self - double check everything after a day of sun & cider!

As I previously stated I hope I'm wrong. This season may be a format of great success. Then I will change my scepticism, as I do when facts prove me wrong.

Agree this is just a stop gap until the PRL and RFU get things sorted out. Still no major sponsor of the new cup ... where is the money coming from again??

we're going to spend the money and then put it on expenses. i'm sure the rfu fees office will rubber stamp them
