Thought it deserved a new topic! 16 wins on the bounce and Premiership Champions!
Great game with both sides giving their all. When Wasps scored either side of the break I thought our goose was cooked but the last 20 minutes of the second half and the full 20'minutes of extra time proved what an exceptionally fit side we are! So proud to be a Chiefs fan toda!

The game followed the pattern of our season, with a lot of brilliant play interspersed with lapses in concentration. Fortunately our grit and determination saw us through, again something typical of the season. I just wanted to say that it was obvious how much this meant to all the players, but especially to Steeno. I know he is not everyone's favourite, but if I wanted someone to kick a goal to save my life, he is the man I'd pick above all others. His commitment to the cause is exceptional and his dignity in victory (it hasn't been tested in defeat for a while!) was praiseworthy, paying tribute all round to colleagues and opponents. I really hope his testimonial match gives us a proper opportunity to thank him for all he's done for the club.

If we win the first game next season, that will be a premiership record...another good reason for a good start to the season.

Wife & 12 year old son were treated to a weekend of Rugby up at Twickenham...the rest of us watched (from the edges of our seats) in front of the TV.
For us all Gareth was M.O.M !
He was targeted from the off by Hughes, and then by Haskell, and He took some huge hits!
But Steeno didn't falter or hide, he stuck to the job in hand and managed the game superbly!
He made one or two hits himself...and tackled anything in front of him! He took his kicks with deadly accuracy...and made the touchline conversion look easy.
And, when there was no pressure what-so-ever of course, He nailed the penalty at the end to win it!

What a perfect conclusion to have the man that won the Club promotion...Win the Club their first (of many) Premiership Title.

I sincerely hope Sandy Park is absolutely packed to the rafters on August 12th...it is no more than Steeno deserves.
Lets hope it really is "the glorious 12th".

Be sure to treat every day on this earth as if it were your last...one day you will be right. (Jethro)

Absolutely. Steeno is right up there when you talk about club legends, and a lovelier man you would not meet.

I spoke to Gareth on Saturday night, the man was physically and emotionally drained but he still had a smile and a willingness to talk to people, and winning that cup means so, so much to him. He showed my wife his winners medal, I put my arm around his shoulder and said "Your a Champion Steeno" it was met with a huge smile.

Thank you and well done Gareth, my family, friends and I will be there on the 12th August. Nothing else will take pride of place in my diary for sure, because for me nothing else is more important on that day. I for one hopes he will never leave Exeter.

From the commentary "Its right through the middle......Of course it is its Gareth Steenson"

Nice comments about Steeno from Geoff Parling in his post match interview too.

Amazing to see Thomas Waldrom's stats for the game - he set a record for the number of carries in a match.

Well...turned out to be the best day of my 2017! Reasonably smooth journey to Twickenham...check...RV with uncle and cousin at Shack 68...check...security relatively straightforward...check.

The match itself...well...talk about a rollercoaster...it was either a matter of having to pinch myself or be slightly bummed that Wasps were leading.

Last time the Chiefs needed extra time to settle a match...pretty sure that was the 2012 Challenge Cup quarter final vs Stade Francais in that Parisian deathtrap of a stadium. In my 26 years of watching rugby I have never seen a match settled by placekicks....and of course I still haven't. YOu somehow knew Steeno wasn't going to miss.

If you had told me when I first started following the Chiefs that ten years later we would be Premiership champions...I would not have believed you, but Premiership champions we somehow are. And just thinking about that still stuns me.

I remember being stood at the old County Ground saying to SWMBO "I wonder if we will ever see Premiership rugby here"

No we didn't, but how things have changed............CHAMPIONS!

Congratulations on your victory. Very well deserved. I was thinking that when we went 20-14 up that another score might just be enough for us. But full credit to your guys. Took control of the game for the last 20 + ET and we never really got a look in.

Hopefully our squad and coaches will learn from the experience and come back stronger next season.

Enjoy the close season and look forward to seeing the two sides lock horns next season.

But we did play a couple of Cup games against Premiership opposition. Against London Irish I remember one of their many tries being greeted by the PA chap saying "Try for Irish scored by that well known Irishman Nnamdi Ezulike". Quick as a flash an Irish voice in the grandstand called out "De registrar was dyslexic". The entire grandstand dissolved with laughter and applause.

Chiefs also played Quins in 05/06 after Quins were relegated. Ugo Moyne scored 5 trys up at the Stoop in a 70 - 5 hammering but Chiefs got their revenge breaking a 19 match unbeaten run in the return winning 13 - 8 at the County Ground in front of the highest attendance of the season, 3,645. The average attendance that year was 1,864; the lowest 1,005.

Quins finished top W25 L1; Chiefs finished 6th.

Quins finished 7th in the Premiership the following season; the year Saints were relegated; the same year Chiefs moved to Sandy Park.

Yep, I was there, but it was not a Premiership game, Andrew Mertens(wrong spelling) missed a couple of penalties for Quins also. The Irish game was not a Premiership game either......But love the story!(Sm22)
