Quick try conversions

The present law relating to quick try conversions is most might agree in need of urgent attention. I am right in thinking that if a player scores a try but realising it might not be awarded on review only has to tap the ball from a spot at right angles to the place he touched down and then declare that he has taken the conversion ? Or do you know more.

It was done to speed the game up so the crowd don't get bored waiting for the ref or for any decisions to be made but it will only create a situation where a team scores a dubious try and rather than wait for the ref to check the TMO they will try to take a quick conversion as once the ball is kicked the ref cannot return to check the passage of play.

My understanding of the Law - A team has the right to attempt a conversion once a try has been scored. so In order for a conversion to be taken the referee first has to signal to award the try.
If a conversion is taken after the ref has put his arm up to award the try...the try cannot be disallowed.

BUT, if the ref has not put his arm up to award the try and goes to the TMO to check...a quick conversion can not be taken!

The Referee is the one in charge...not players who think they may have scored!

Be sure to treat every day on this earth as if it were your last...one day you will be right. (Jethro)

The ref does have the power to overrule the attempt at a quick conversion if its taken after the ref asks a question to the TMO.

As was evidenced in a recent game in France between Toulouse and Toulon when Toulouse tried to go quickly.

Makes me think that the whole rule is counteractive to the whole TMO process.
