I'd be interested to know how the prices for the AW semi final compare with those charged for Prem games. Being an ST holder this situation only comes up for me in these latter stages but it looks as if the W Grandstand centre tickets will be £42 when they go on sale which seems a lot for a "development" competition, particularly one that's on TV. IIRC we had the same issue last year???

It's only a development competition because some fans designate it so and most clubs use it as such. Nowhere is it officially stated that it's a development competition. For a development competition the nearest we have is the A league.

Then why is the competition's strapline "Tomorrow's Heroes Today"? That suggests that the organisers, at least, see it as a development competition

The AW of course evolved out of the old National Cup which was the apogee of a club's achievements in the pre-League era (and about the last time that Bath actually won anything of significance).

When the European Cups became the target of the first XVs the AW became, if you like, the Cup competition for the A League. If we ever get to the full 22 game A League that was being mentioned for 2020 I wonder whether they will take the opportunity to turn the AW into a proper cup contest for that league mirroring the European format and played on the same weekends?

IIRC there was a mix up about ticket prices for the semi final last season which was quickly corrected by the club and the original quoted price reduced significantly!

As for a development competition, some clubs use it to bring on academy players, A league players and first teamers receiving from injury. Some teams, who are languishing in the lower end of the Premiership go balls out to win it just to get silverware and the Welsh teams donít seem to bother.

Think of all those lucky Mothers who are going to get to eat a pasty and see a semi-final as a special surprise treat.

I guess that some people are happy to let marketing define their world view.

is it not £58+ in the centre of the grandstand for Prem games -£42 seems a decent discount if so. (more than 25%)
ETC tickets seem to be £5 cheaper than the normal £35, which is about 15% less (my daughters youth ticket was only 7% less for what its worth)

Seems about right to me, and in line with previous years at Sandy Park
