14 changes from last week !
Going to be a very big test against a full first team from Newcastle but good luck to the lads and it will be great experience for the young front row replacements.

Can't see us winning this one to be honest against a full Falcons first team, but good experience for the youngsters.

Very Good to see that Rob is sticking with the pricipals that this is a development competition where the next crop of developing players coming through can gain a huge amount of experience.

Agree Phil, we still have a very strong staring 15 with a number of players coming back from injury but have a lot of young inexperienced players on the bench. Falcons meanwhile have fielded their Premiership 23, they are looking to break their SP duck and win their first silverware for some time. Given their position in the Premiership and the chance of a top 4 finish, I thought they might have rested a few!

Nothing wrong with the side we are putting out. Great selection and more than capable of winning. I know which team will have the most pressure on them to perform.

Canít tell if this comment is tongue in cheek? We could put out a much less experienced 15 if we were purely interested in developing players..

Only Innard, Van Der Sluys and OíFlaherty lack experience and Cordero is a full international

Last week young Joe got his chance and took it. He is the only retained player so hopefully the other fourteen will do the same and take the Falcons apart. Hopefully our friends from the north wil arrive expecting an easy win and then be unable to lift their game when they discover itís not just as easy as that

Best thing about that team sheet - Dave Dennis. Great to see him back.
Going to be a big ask against that full strength Falcons team but itís great that we can have a team as good as that after 14 changes.
Canít really criticise Newcastle for putting the first team out, weíve been on the strong end of very unbalanced games in this competition before now, itís the way it goes. Winning this cup was a real springboard for Chiefs back along, Falcons are on a similar upward curve now as we were then and obviously see a good chance to win a trophy and then kick on. Fair play to them.
Looking forward to the game, safe travels to Falcons fans, come on you Chiefs.

Agree CullyChief particularly around Dave Dennis - under rated part of our success last year IMHO
Good news that we can rest so many players and still have a team which almost without exception would be comfortable premiership first teasers.

Let me help you out then - Looking at the 23 Man Squad (rather than just the starters) it is clear to see that Rob has picked a side to be in keeping with the core values of the competition!
And so he should.

Also agree about Dennis, although Iíd like to see him in the second row again at some point, where he was incredibly effective for us in the knockouts last year.

It will also be good to see how van der Sluys has progressed and whether he can push Skinner and Hill for a first team spot.

Glad to see Cordero at full back where I hope he will be the answer to the post-Dollman question.

As I said on a another post the AW means different things to different clubs. Newcastle are entitled to pick whichever team they wish. There are no rules forbidding it.

And so he should.

And when we fielded a first team against Saints in the final 4 years ago?

Falcons are in a different place to us with different aspirations, perhaps similar to where we were 4 years ago? so have made a team selection based on what they think is best for them. We have done the same. I have no issue with either team selection.
Falcons will obviously gain hugely from a trophy in the cabinet. We will gain from blooding some youngsters in a competitive team, whilst getting some experienced players back up to match intensity after long layoffs. Win win for both sides.

Obviously if Falcons get a raft of injuries, or player burnout, which harms their league and European cup aspirations, then in hindsight they may think differently.
The fact they settled for 4pts against us rather than pushing for the TBP when they beat us in Jan suggests that winning the premiership is not their main goal.

The competition is a great tool for sides to develop. But development can be building crowds, to grow the club, on the back of trophies just as much as it is fielding youngsters from the academy
