Glad to see his response to Barnsie's 'boring' jibe!

Yes his response of "we're successful, so how is that boring?" was truly great.

Oh and most people think Exeter play dire rugby, not just Barnes.

How was mid table mediocrity Ballsout....?

Winning isn't always pretty, You might understand that if you supported a club that actually had a positive win/loss record over the last 12 months. Now considering that the title of Boring has been leveled at both Exeter and Saracens I can't help but wonder if there is more than a little envy at the two best teams in the Premiership..

Is Ballsout Envious of Exeter's success and bitter that Bruce Craig's wallet cannot replicate the same success?

It would probably be more beneficial to you if you spent some time learning to read and comprehend the printed word, rather than trolling message boards.(Sm119)

The actual quote for those that have not seen it. The article is well worth reading in full.

Quote:
..Stuart Barnes heavily criticised Exeter's possession-based game, accusing you of being "boring" and "ruining rugby". How do you react to that?

If the main part of your argument is that keeping the ball is a negative tactic, then youv'e got to be pretty narrow-minded from a rugby perspective because you're watching a team that is prepared to make more passes than anyone else. He says keeping the ball for keeping the ball's sake is boring but I don't know another coach in world rugby who'd think being able to keep the ball at the breakdown and make passes is negative for the game.....

to paraphrase the end of the comment

He then mentions Leicester were called boring during their period of dominance, and feels it is a huge compliment to Chiefs that they are seen as boring now for consistently getting to finals and top 4's, after 30 odd years association with the club where such things have never been said before.

'most people' is one of those meaningless phrases that are written to back up someone's opinions. 'most people of my acquaintance' may be fairer?

The days of searing runs by Barnes out of defence backed up by the gliding pace of Guscott are gone. Defences are too good to allow the sevens style rugby of my rose-tinted youth. Ah yes - those wonderful 60's and 70's where forwards trudged from set piece to set piece on muddy, boggy pitches.

Try on Saturday against Cardiff Blues. Virtually every player had the ball at one point in the build-up. The point of attack varied from narrow to wide. Not a single error and finally a chink was found. That wasn't dire. And it was replicated many times in the last couple of seasons.

You forgot to add "and all of that from just half a yard out".

Ballache is entitled to his opinion.
My opinion is that there is a big difference between Bath who's game plan is to kick the ball to the opposition and us who like to keep the ball.
Which team has been more successful with those tactics?
We obviously just pick and go constantly from our own 22 right to the opposition try line without playing any rugby in between? Right?
And we take the easy option of kicking at goal from penalties rather than being adventurous and taking a risk and kicking to the corner? Right?
Very boring.
Or is it just that teams can't defend what we do and the inevitability that our opponents know what is coming that makes it boring for others to watch?
If our opponents think we are boring by being successful we have truly made it to the top so reason to celebrate!
