An article in todays Telegraph by Tom Johnson shows how difficult it is for players to adjust when the time comes to retire. We as supporters wave goodbye to our players when they pack it in and move on to the current team, this shows how much the retiring player ha to adjust to a new way of life.

Sportspeople are somewhat unique in that they mostly step away from the limelight. It must be hard, but I'm guessing not very different from many others who devote their life to their work.
