Should we worry that the latest under 18s squad contains no Exeter players at all? We have historically done well with the youngsters coming through the ranks but as far as I can see we are the only Premier side not to have any players selected for the latest England under 18s squad.

Turnover of a squad is not really a yearly thing, so it is probably a blessing to have the odd fallow year from the academy, otherwise you would soon run out of opportunities for youngsters to breakthrough if you are not dropping an equal number of players at the other end.

Especially so at Chiefs at the moment, where we have quite a young squad in general.

I'm sure I'd read that the following years crop is very highly regarded.

Edit, plus of course we have the Welsh Jesus selected for Wales u18s this summer

The trouble is the more successful your academy is the more different clubs come in to poach them.

Are the academy players looking at the low age of the senior squad and thinking they may have better opportunities at other clubs

Chief Fire Water makes a couple of good points regarding other clubs and academy boys thinking they may have better opportunities elsewhere.
Of course there is another angle which is that the current crop aren't good enough.

I have heard that Rob is concerned about the quality of the current crop and that he may be looking elsewhere.
But of course certain people tend to mature later than others, so I dont think we have any concerns as we should have complete confidence in our academy as it hasn't let us down yet.
