WWR 6 v Hunslet 86

Kick off delayed due to late arrival of doctor, only one substitute named and a record home defeat ensued.

The club posted on social media a 17 man squad but the team sheet submitted to the ref only had 14?

Not the follow up to the last match we wanted.

It will be interesting to see what happened and how three players failed late fitness tests. Something I have never heard of before, plus what was the back up plan?

It is never a dull moment following WWR.

We only had 13 players for the game with Archie Snook failing the head protocol prior to the game.

We have 5 away with the Wales Under 19's in Serbia - No idea where the rest may have been

but there are a large number of injuries.

They have had their coach in place since the back end of last year.He has assembled a good side who play the basics and do support play very well.

They had a bit of pace,as well, against a 13 in stifling heat whereas they had the luxury of the interchange.

Next up,York City Knights.

No subs at all for a home game?

Did the players not know the game was on?

Surely this is more than a little serious, not least for the 13 who took the field without any hope of a "rest" from an interchange.

This is deeply concerning and hopefully will never be repeated.

Having interchange players is NOT a luxury.

Its what is expected as a minimum for a professional side.

Ive been involved in (non pro) sides where less than 17 have travelled but not for a home game.

What this smacks of is a much deeper problem at the club. Worse than that is the lack of candour from within the club to the fans about the reality of that situation.

The 5 student players missing was known weeks ago and there should have been planned for.

Saying 'injuries' is the same tired excuse we have heard since almost day one.

Finally for three players to fail fitness tests prior to the game and have no replacements ready is laughable at best.

To be that close to having to call a game off due to not being able to field a team is amateurish at best.

If there isn't money to strengthen the team, and I'm not talking about players from teams who have also proved barely good enough for this level, then I would honestly draw a line under this sorry affair.

Some of the optimistic posts after a result like this really are laughable.
Teams are guilty of nothing more than turning up with full squads, having players who play rugby league and are well coached.

'New to rugby league', 'injuries', 'work commitments' just scream not prepared and out of our depth.
We are getting soundly trounced most weeks other than against the very worst in this league.
Can anybody suggest how this gets any better next year without big money being spent on that squad?

The very valid points made by longstanding followers of the game in this thread highlight the problem and the concerns. Yesterday's events need to be clarified and assurances put in place.

In the heat yesterday the 13 players were risking their health due to no replacements being available.

It is bad enough for the game that new points records are set against WWR most weeks but for a club not to be able to name a full squad or even close to one is very worrying.

very good points made by all - thankfully this old forum remains the home of sense and sensibility.

york city knights unfortunately are locked in a battle for the title and points difference may well be important, they will go for the jugular next week as they know that Bradford Bulls will do the same in September.

Andrew Thorne and others have been discussing yesterday's game on Social Media. Andrew has made another from the heart statement and as always is to be thanked for that.

The following is informative and I have extracted it from what is on the club's facebook pages.

WWR have 37 registered players

13 played yesterday.

5 are in Serbia
5 injured
1 head injury
6 working
4 on holiday
3 players no communication.

On the absence due to working - WWR have moved their home games from the traditional Sunday to Saturday. Has this caused a problem? The up and coming Coventry game is the latest to have been switched to Saturday.

In many jobs you do not take / are not allowed to take holidays in busy times etc. Many employers ask what holidays you have booked before you are taken on.

No communication - oh dear!

Any player on holiday at this time should NEVER have been signed. This does not happen with other pro clubs that players take holidays during the season - even thigs like stag dos etc are not allowed.

Work commitments can be worked around with decent notice - I do wonder how many players would have thought that their full time work was more appealing than being on the end of another hiding.

If there is no communication from 3 players THEN FOR CHRISTS SAKE ANNOUNCE THEY ARE OUT OF THE CLUB !

Barring injuries and international commitments a full 13 players were absent DESPITE five new signings made this week,,,only one of whom played as far as I could see.

The only way is up because if I had to call it right now this is as low as the pro game has been in S Wales.

It is easily the lowest the game has been here.

Breaking records for all the wrong reasons and it appears that it is being run like a conference club and being treated by some of the squad as such it seems.

We were there at 1.30 and I would say at least 3 of their players were drinking alcohol

Surely not ???????
