Coral Challenge Cup v Newcastle Thunder ( Away )

The Coral Challenge Cup game, away at Newcastle Thunder,is this Saturday with a 2.30pm ko.

Entrance is 10 - which seems to be half the usual price.

I am guessing that the financial rewards for clubs,in this competition, will be far greater than available in the 1895 Cup to be played later this year.

The governing body is short of funds.

I cannot see Thunder being allowed to play the Wakefield first teamers,as they did at London,as the Wakefield club will require them not to be cup-tied.Particularly Max Jowitt at full back.

There must be a bit of pressure on for Newcastle as it is obvious that promotion is their one and only goal.

The sacking of Jason Payne was a shock, and with the union side Newcastle Falcons struggling for another season, there must be some concern as to whether the owner of both clubs will want to continue.

It would be nice to frustrate them at the start of each half and allow crowd anxiety to impact on their players.

The referee for the game is Liam Staveley.Interestingly,he has refereed Thunder last year when they had some wins - and some losses - including refereeing them when they have lost at Kingston Park.

A repeat of that would be good.

Well,Thunder could be a club in crisis

Pity,I thought he was a weak link that could be exploited.
