The response to our player support fund campaign was overwhelming. Your kindness made a tangible difference to many people's XMAS and for those of us involved in overseeing the program, re-inforced our belief that the rugby community is a very special one.
Donations were received from all over the world, many people of course have a connection to London Welsh, many others were from other clubs up and down the country and people who live in the local area.
The online fund closed last night with a total of 262 people having made donations of £40,473. We also received a number of cheques which will be added to this total in the next few days.
As I'm sure you understand the money does not immediately become available for use, it can take between 7 and 14 days for the donations to be received, the GiftAid element taking somewhat longer as it needs to be processed with HMRC.
What have we done already
* 32 people received £999 on 16 Dec, in time for it to have an impact on their xmas.
* We have used smaller amounts over the last 2 weeks to have an inpact on the day to day lives of the players and staff, we will continue to do this in the next days.
Now the fund has closed we can make a proper assessment of the total amount we have to use. Members of the supporters club and amateur club will then decided the next steps and how the final amount can be most effectively utilised for greatest impact. We have also asked the playing and support staff to nominate from within the group to help contribute ideas and ultimately decide on what we do. We expect to conclude that process in the next 10days.
If anyone does have questions then feel free to contact Gwyn Williams (Chairman of London Welsh Amateur Rugby Club), Haydn Parry (Chairman London Welsh Supporters Club) and Pete Lowe (Treasurer London Welsh Supporters Club)
