Deano faces headache selection for Sale/player ratings!
falconsfan07 03 September, 2017 13:46
After Newcastle's dominant and proffesional victory over Wocester Warriors, Director of Rugby Dean Richards will face a massive headache selection for the team to play Sale this Friday.

Everyone in the 23 really put their hand up for selection against the Warriors, and even if Flood, Mermoz and Goneva where fit for this game against Sale, would you shift them in for Hodgson, Harris and Agulla who all played Blinders. It's a tough place to go, and here is the team that I think we should take to Sale, should all be fit, and their ratings from our last outing.

1. Rob Vickers-Effective as ever in the loose, won a crucial turnover, tackled valiantly and scored a trademark 0.1M from the line try, but as ever still struggled in the scrum. 7/10

2. Kyle Cooper-Awesome, just awesome, effective all around the field, stealing ball winning crucial turnovers, tackling hard, scoring a try and making a barn storming 50m carry. Fully deserved man of the match, hit all but one line out as well I think. 9/10

3. Jon Welsh- As solid as ever carrying and tackling, but struggled in the scrum. 7/10

4. Calum Green- Unsung hero, just going about his work quietly, could have been sin binned if Barnsey had a better angle to choose from, but very effective in the loose and line-out for us on the night. 7/10

5. Will Witty- Like Green, solid carrier and effective in the line out. 6/10

6. Mark Wilson- Looking very lean going into this new season, thought he was good, quietly going about his work, tackling and scragging wingers effectively of Tane's box kicks. 7/10

7. Will Welch- Led by example, quality opening game from the Falcons captain, dislodged the ball at crucial times and really disrupted play, plays hard. 8/10

8. Callum Chick- A very impressive performance from the towering number 8. effective all over the field. 7/10

9. Sonetane Takulua- Pretty good, barr a fumble in the second half when we where in Worcesters 22 his delivery was brilliant, as where his box kicks and he made some lovely breaks beating plenty of defenders on the night. Doing all of it with a big smile on his face. 9/10

10. Joel Hodgson- Pretty solid outing from the former RGS pupil. Contained T'eo (who had a shocker) really well and defended well when the big boys ran at him, and his distribution and running game was good too. Kicks really lack power though. 7/10.

11. Belisario Agulla- Probably his best game in a Falcons shirt, just plays with pride, defended really well and won a brilliant turnover late in the second half, lacks that X factor in attack though, runs hard and straight and is very committed though. 7/10 CHANGE FOR SINOTI OR GONEVA IF POSSIBLE FOR SALE

12. Josh Matevasi- I was worried when I saw he was 119kg in the squad photos, but he was great, lovely hands on him and talks really well, defense was solid too. Will be a solid valued member of the squad this season, I do not think fitness will be an issue, plenty of good direct carries and offloads lastnight. 8/10

13. Chris Harris- Another who could of been awarded man of the match, relentless in defense all night with doing the basics really well. 8/10 Juan Socino to 12, Matavesi to 13 for Sale?

14. Alex Tait- Looks in really good shape, thought he lacked pace...oh boy was I wrong, did something positive everytime he got the ball and even ran close lines into the big boys, Ben T'eo couldn't tackle him. 9/10

15. Simon Hammersly- Shakey under the high ball once early on, but solid performance for the rest of the night, supported Tane well on breaks and should of been rewarded with a try. 7/10

16. Scott Lawson-solid off the bench 6/10 17. Sami Mavinga-good carry into Biyi Alo 6/10 18. Trevor Davison- Didn't see enough of him, will grow with time 19.Tevita Cavubati, effective in the driving maul and line-out 6/10 20. Nili Latu- awesome, some massive hits from the Tongan. 21. Stuart set up Juan Pablo Socino for his try and looked rather good 6/10 22. Craig Willis- solid, ran hard into some big boys 6/10 23. Juan Pablo Socino, really good in defense and hit a beauty line to score a try, put his hand up for the Sale game 7/10.

Good performance and not much to change. who would you pick for Sale?

Hope to see lots of you in the North stand so we can make lots of noise like we did last season, last trip to Sale was awesome, the north stand was like our little south stand, we made plenty of noise, lets do the same this Friday.

Don't forget your flags.

Haven't seen the game but I'd imagine the likes of Flood, Sinoti, Goneva will be in the first team, if fit. I can see a lot of rotation to keep everyone on their toes.

Agree re Sinoti and Goneva but it might be a bit harsh to replace Joel as he played well, I think we might see Toby on the bench. Crazy depth we are building now

Not sure when the injured are available again. In the Sunday Sun article Dino says we're talking weeks rather than months.

I'd expect some players to be back for the Saracens game but I hope we have positive news against Sale.

I would swap Joel and Toby. Sale ain't gonna be a Worcester! And if we wanna progress we need our strongest team possible.

Will be very interesting who he picks for the Sale game, I believe they will be a tougher challenge than Worcester. smiling smiley

Yep I think horses for courses.

Sale away with their squad are a different proposition to Worcester. They put a good stint in away to Wasps and will definitely be expecting to have a good run at us.

What price the team is pretty similar to Friday's?
It was suggested to me by 2 or 3 fellow supporters that the players with "niggles" are actually being protected for the Philli game. According to them It seems that the promoters of that game are insistent that all our "star" performers are fit and available.
If there's any truth in that it'll be really really interesting to see who gets picked for the next two games
Personally I'd rather see our strongest possible side play against Sale as its a game we have a better chance of winning

Robs, I can categorically deny any fit players have been protected for Philly and that promoters have insisted on certain players playing.

Baffled as to why someone would feel motivated to invent such a load of Grade A rubbish. It would be idiotic to even contemplate this and can you imagine Deano's reaction!?

For the avoidance of doubt, not a grain of truth in this 'theory'.

Wow this is shock from you, you don't offer any other players to drop I assume you are happy that the other 14 are our strongest option

Sorry if I don't want a 60cap England international running at FH.

just asked a quick question that was all as you have only said one person you would change, you haven't mentioned the impact that JPS made coming off the bench, or the extra umph our forwards made, onkynthe 10 that set up the first try and made 100% of his tackles in a decent first out of the season

From another feed

Great start to kick on for and some great performances Kyle Cooper, Will Witty, Chris Harris, Tane Takulua but my MOTM goes to Alex Tait he was the only player who had a fantastic game last week against Edinburgh and has continued that form last night, Joel played some good rugby but he missed touch way to many times, and if we were playing a sarries or wasps they would have punished us!. Now on to Worcester they were poor last night missed tackle count was very high(sale won't miss that many next week) from them but I'm sure they will improve over the season.

Now on to the frightening part really apart from Tane that was our second choice backline and it just shows the strength and depth we have now!! Plus 13EQP players on show last night.

The forwards were certainly missing a monster carrier (apart from Kyle Cooper). Opeti Founa could give us massive go forward in that department. Callum Green is certainly one of our unsung heros, his work rate is outstanding.

All in all a good well deserved start. Bring on the sharks!! COYF

Very pleased with what I saw on Friday night. We can all nit pick about certain aspects but for me the result was paramount, along with the performance .

So many committed 100% players on view
.
See the Telegraph Team of the Week .

Will Welch in at 7.Wayne Barnes making the point that Welch normally a breakdown scavenger-had purposefully ignored jackelling opportunities.Instead the Falcons openside tortured Worcester with a number of Momentum -sapping hits.He was Industrious and Outstanding."

Well done also Rob Vickers in at number 1.."Pick and Go Monster".

No pushovers anymore.

Not carried away BUT well done to all the lads Friday.
