Mark Wilson is outstanding...can pretty much to the lot...is a Captain and even played half a season at lock...performing ridiculously well also.

Why then is he not even considered for England?? Im at a loss.

Especially now with so many injuries....on other forums I keep seeing all sorts of names like Mike Williams (really????) yet not one mention of our Mark.

With it looking increasingly likely Chris Robshaw will miss the whole 6n...surely Mark is the perfect replacement for that role!

Whats your thoughts on it?

Much as I am reluctant to lose any player to England, Mark W should be a shoe-in. He one of a number of our players who should be in the running for caps. Good for our reputation, but not always so good for our results.

Re: Mark Wilson & England
Geordie 09 January, 2017 11:17
Agree totally I want players with Newcastle not England...but just think he needs his performances over the last few years recognised...

Bedlington Lad 09 January, 2017 11:26
I would hate to think Eddie Jones ignores him because he's not at Wasps, Sarries, Bath etc. David Flatman, who I think is a top commenter, picked out how good Mark's stats were compared to Robshaw and Wood on the BT show, he's a big fan of Mark.

Looking at Nili Latu when I watched the game back afterwards, I mistook him for Eddie Jones initially, I thought at last he'd worked out how to travel north of Leicester.

I really don't know how he doesn't even get near the squad even the Saxons squad. I am surprised he has never got in, surely as much as I am glad he doesn't get called up to be honest it can't be long before he does. smiling smiley

Robshaw misses 6N.

Re: Mark Wilson & England
Leipziger 09 January, 2017 12:13
I was interested to read David Wilson's interview in the programme for the Bath game, he said he was told to leave the Falcons if he wanted to play for England (which was common knowledge at the time), but hinted that this was not because he was second choice to Carl Hayman - it was because we were seen as a lower-standard club. Funnily enough, Davey's first cap then came in England's first test after his move to Bath was announced, but that was in the summer tours before he'd even played for Bath.

I'd hope that Eddie Jones is a bit more open-minded, but then I'm not sure, considering how he treated Rokodoguni in the autumn.

Rokodoguni's defence is nowhere near good enough for international level.

Re: Mark Wilson & England
Bedlington Lad 09 January, 2017 12:32
I hope no-one now sees us as a lower-tier club and if Eddie Jones doesn't pick Mark it's England's loss and our gain, although I'd love him to get international recognition

Re: Mark Wilson & England

Is it possible that he has been asked but would rather play for Falcons?

But why would you turn down your country

Re: Mark Wilson & England
Geordie 09 January, 2017 12:57
Interesting on some of the other forums...many of the other teams fans have likened him to Phil Dowson ie a top prem player but wont make the next level.

They obviously haven't seen him play much! Because that's just rubbish

Re: Mark Wilson & England
CSGG 09 January, 2017 15:22
The fact that Harrison, Williams, Wood and Youngs are in the England squad before Mark W is scandalous.

Surely the greatest example in years that the North East playing stock is ignored by the England selectors.

Is Yarde's? Looked badly out of position against Sale and Roko is a much better finisher.

Re: Mark Wilson & England
Kwa444 09 January, 2017 17:29
For whatever reason it appears that Yarde works better in Jones' game plan the Roko. I also believe Roko is weak under the high ball and in defence which would be seriously exposed at International level.

For me he checks the same boxes as Wade.

I think Flatman's sentiments were agreed with on BT - I can't think Wilson's work rate with his attitude will pass Jones by. Unless of course Jones believes that Mark is as good as he can be already and that other players are not as well developed or committed to their clubs. Which makes you wonder if they have the right mindset anyway....

I think Mark has stepped up another level recently - last I saw of him he was an excellent AP player in the Tom May mould. He has stepped up to International level now with his reading of the game and management.

Think we need to watch we don't develop a chip on our shoulder and basically look parochial and village. Who can forget when our friends from SJP went around with 'Cockney Mafia Out' banners whilst ignoring the fact that two of our favourite players (Sir Les and Bobby Lee) weren't exactly from Wallsend.

It's been proved over the years that you can play for Falcons and England....Jonny, Jamie Noon, Matt Tait, Stevo, and our very own attack coach all got caps playing for a 'lower standards club' and more recently Brookesy got picked for England whilst at Kingston Park. I think Davey's lack of call up was due to not being first choice in his position but I reserve the right to talk rubbish. Anyway, a few recent England coaches has been from Oop North so may not have had any anti Northern agenda. Plus, Quins and Sarries aren't really Northern and they could justifiably moan about Luke Wallace, Will Fraser or Jackson Wray!

As for Mark, it would be fantastic if he got in the England squad, he's looked sensational recently and has had rave reviews, would be great for him, the club and supporters, and send a great message to local talent.

With Robshaw now out of the 6N if Mark doesn't make the squad I doubt he ever will but he can't do anymore to prove he deserves his chance

Looking at the players mentioned by CSGG, I too, am baffled that they get in ahead of our very own Mark Wilson. None of them are anywhere near as good either at the moment, in terms of form, or generally as a player.

But, as a few have mentioned, I would much rather be watching him week in week out in a falcons shirt, than missing for half of the season.

Top quality player, who deserves the recognition and dare I say, would have had 20-30 caps had he been playing for one of the more "fashionable" clubs.

Re: Mark Wilson & England
ColinCharvis8 09 January, 2017 20:04
As previously said, plenty of flankers have been overlooked by successive establishments... maybe they need to visit the ball parks with more regularity instead of picking mates of mates (cough Harrison and Hartley)...

Re: Mark Wilson & England
Kwa444 10 January, 2017 17:18
I think Mark is so important for us and our team psyche at the moment that his loss to us would be substantially more significant than England's gain.

There would be nothing worse than seeing him getting splinters for England while our mid table form and confidence slips.

For his benefit I hope he does get the nod as he deserves it, but I won't be too unhappy if his abilities are overlooked!

Re: Mark Wilson & England
Geordie 11 January, 2017 14:28
Yeah KWA

I think the majority of us would FAR rather see him turning out for us week in week out...that goes without saying.

I think its more his own recognition...he's a genuine quality player...and driving leader on the pitch!

Re: Mark Wilson & England
Falconfan 11 January, 2017 16:10
I don't believe this line about not selected for England because play for Falcons! What do Jonny Wilkinson, Jamie Noon, Toby Flood, Matthew Tait have in common? Not sure but maybe Tom May and David Walder should be added to the list.

Re: Mark Wilson & England
Geordie 11 January, 2017 16:18
I agree Falcon fan. I don't think it is because he plays for us....

It genuinely must be that they think the others offer more and maybe they have a higher potential level.

How many times has Eddie Jones been to KP? I also must be in the minority who thinks country before club.

I saw him at the Saracens game last season at KP. Think that was the only time.

Although he would be a miss the benefits of him playing for England outweigh the negatives to me. In the long run it would send a great message to local players, academy players and aspiring first team players like Witty, Scott Wilson and Chick. It would be fantastic for Mark too.

Of course he has to be picked first! I'm not going to slag Eddie off either, his 2016 speaks for itself. Plus every club has supporters who thing they have a player or players who should be in Eddie's squad, it's not just us and Mark.

Much as I would hate to lose him from our match day starting 15 I have to agree that overall the boost that this would give our squad, especially the younger home grown lads would be immense. It would raise the profile of the club in a way that nothing else can.

Next time Ben Kay is at the falcons someone needs a words in his ear and tell him to shut up about having to live to a fashionable club.

That's elitism at its worst.

In fact Twitter and Ben Kay here I come.

I took it to mean Ben Kay was having pop at Eddie Jones, rather than the Falcons. I'm sure we've all seen players picked and thought it's just because of who they play for not what they deliver. Certainly happens in Cricket where players at "unfashionable" counties miss out

Re: Mark Wilson & England

Had to share something I just read in the Telegraph rugby section, largely sums up all the above. Article about Englands injury crisis...

''There are plenty of top-class flankers in the Premiership for Jones to choose from. The most obvious choice would be for Tom Wood to move across to No 6 and his Northampton team-mate Teimana Harrison to start at openside. Or, if he hasn't concussed himself again, James Haskell to reclaim the No 7 jersey.

In the absence of Robshaw; Wood, Haskell, Harrison, Mike Williams, Sam Jones, Jack Clifford, Don Armand, Guy Thompson, Dave Ewers, Matt Kvesic, James Chisholm, and soon-to-be-Bath-player Sam Underhill, could all step in.''

Hilarious, although article does go on to belatedly mention Wilson as a fourth choice number 8.

Ben Kay is a queer one the guy is a prime candiate for living proof there is a north south divide in rugby.

It was at the Sarries game last season and the ref from memory was that bad he needed a sarries shirt not yellow shirt. We had a bit crack with Ben Kay post game and i think my mate huffed him, we asked him honestly if he thought the ref had a good game yes he did he replied you guys up here if you play poor get on the refs neck for nothing. Now take into account and i dont like this but repeated the refs a @#$%&/are you blind ref etc etc chants were flying around the ground all game my oh said at one point you could hear them on tv.

My mate at which point asked if he was Sarries fan jokingly and if he watched the same game and he walked away. Both him and Austin Healy didnt hang about wouldnt sign autographs etc, or let people get pics taken etc they did the tv bit and they were gone the pair may as well of ran out the ground. Not a good advert for 2 ex England pros no respect at all for either!

Watching racing Vs tigers and wondering how mike Williams is ahead of Mark Wilson for the number 6 shirt... just missed a sitter of a tackle and never seen the guy have a go at the breakdown. will be baffled if he plays for England.
