The new plans look superb. Not only are we building a squad to challenge the Premiership's best, we're also going to have a superb community stadium and home for professional rugby in the North.

The Falcons are going from strength to strength and its all very exciting. What a great job everybody at the Falcons is doing! Having been a "doubting Thomas" for too long, I'm so happy to admit how wrong I was.

Getting back on topic and adding to the comments earlier, the planning app can be found on Newcastle City's planning portal with all supporting statements
2017/1451/01/DET

The two training pitches and facilities are 100% funded by RFU on condition of being completed by start of next season, I suspect the changes to the North Terrace will take a little longer. The extension of the North Terrace of 1530 new seats looks to incorporate the existing structure. I wonder if this prompts a swap of ends of the supporters.

Thanks Timeshock
Looks absolutely fantastic, will take the facilities at the ground to a whole new level and be one of the best purpose-built rugby stadia in the country.

Probably stolen the club's thunder by announcing it on here but great to see !

This is not new news, the plans have been at the stadium since the start of the season and the detail published on here some time ago. Indeed the planning app has been in some sometime, just thought the app number would be useful(Sm100)

I’ve been wondering what other supporters think about the quality of our floodlights. Of course it might just be old eyes but my enjoyment of Friday night matches has been greatly reduced because I find it hard to see what’s happening on the field as much as I can during afternoon fixtures.
When I got home from the game last night I watched my recording of the game on TV and again found my enjoyment of it spoiled due to what I consider to be inadequate lighting. I think it would be great to see planned improvements to the floodlights too.

Is there a reason why there can't be a longer, bigger, new stand to replace the East Stand? That would seem more of a priority and also would be more profitable.

I would guess the demolition costs would be the issue here

And why knock down something which is still a workeable asset?

The north stand development is a straight add on and then opens up the access to the new pitches they are building

I can't imagine the demolition costs would be that much (as it's so small) and it would no doubt add more capacity (than the plans for the North) which will hopefully be needed in the future. It has its charm but, as that is the shot of the ground people see when catching highlights on TV, it doesn't to me give a good or accurate impression. Experience from rugby and football suggests a good new stand on its own leads to a good increase in attendance.

All that said, I guess building a whole totally new stand would cost a fair bit however big it was.

Just had a first look at the new proposals and they look top notch. Hope it's done for the start of next season

Just had a gander at the plans myself, and they look mightily impressive. I was one of the fans that knocked the american adventure, but it has clearly put a large chunk of money towards these developments.

It is an exciting time to be a Falcons fan, both on and off the field.

The intention is the training pitches and facilities will have to be in order to qualify for 100% RFU funding fir that bit. The North Terrace is the clubs funding, phase two, I think that will be substantially longer. Planning permission has also still be to granted.

We can only know if the Philly trip was financially worth it once we know how much dosh we got. Will we ever be told?

Not entirely sure it's any of our business in terms of expecting access to club funds as we don't own the club. In terms of was it financially worth it, I think it's fair to say that given the developments that are taking place off field and the standard of play on field the answer is yes. The club also made a pretty good effort to compensate Season Ticket holders and it took our team into a global stage , promoted Rugby in America and we lost a game that no matter how rose tinted our glasses, we were always going to lose.

We have no right to know how much we received for the American trip and I don't think we should be told.

The club made a commercial decision with the best interests of Falcons in mind and as these development plans show they are planning for the long term future of the club.

The transformation of Newcastle Falcons both on and off the pich over the last six years has been outstanding and looking at these plans the club have a serious intent to continue this progression.

Truly an exciting time to be a Falcons supporter!!

You normally speak a reasonable amount of sense........ but on this occasion I think the journalistic fingers have hit the keyboard before the brain was engaged! We will not be told for several good reasons:
- it is almost certainly subject to commercial confidentiality
- how ever much we got, some people will still moan
- it's none of our business!
