Sounds like he had a really solid game going by what a good number of people have said on here, could you see Deano keeping him then and would you give him a go with us this season?. smiling smiley

Well of the Tightheads on show he was the best out there. We won a few scrum penalties with dominant go forward. He doesn't look your typical prop and has a taller more athletic frame. He showed up well in the loose too. I would definitely want a further look.

On the others the ex Blaydon lad did ok nothing special but is a work in progress and will progress when he's used with the speed of the game at top level.

The Portuguese ex Sale lad no thanks didn't do much at all and looks quite small for a tighthead at this level.

I'm not sure if any of them on show would displace Jon Welsh but if neither of the Wilson lads pull their fingers out and get fit/stay of treatment table these 2 could get game time maybe as much as Alex Rogers did last season.

To contradict my previous post, I agree. Payne and Vickers gave us real go forward. Davison, a local lad, is a work in progress but looked steady and strong. As for the Portuguese fellow ...
Mavinga, I think, is deceptive. He seemed very strong in the loose.

On a separate note, Uzokwe and Latu were excellent. The former seemed to be attached to Flood, always popping up in the right place. Latu was back to his 'exocet' style strength.

Mark Wilson had mentioned that Uzokwe had been pulling up trees in training. And he was the constant standout player for Darlington.

Could be a very good signing.

I thought Payne did very well. Looked solid in the scrum and did some big hard carries. He's an odd shape for a prop though taller and slimmer...and I understand he does play lock and back row as well...
Maybe worth another look in the next few friendlies.

Mavinga did well. But I need to see more.

Bar Flood, its difficult to really judge anyones performances on those games. Even Joel, who I thought didn't have his best day at the office.

He is a tall prop just looked 6'4 similar height to the likes of Hayman and Fry. smiling smiley

Up front I too was impressed with Payne and Uzokwe, and was also liked the look of the scrumhalf Stuart.

My thoughts exactly, and Hayman was not a bad prop as I remember.

Alas Fry wasn't....

Ryan was a tall prop as well, so the Falcons' experience of them was decidedly mixed. The starting eight in the Donnie game did scrummage well, but I'm not sure premiership referees will allow them to scrummage so low.
