Burns Night for Doddie

On Thursday 25th January, which for those who donít keep track of these things is Burns Night, there is going to be a special Burns Supper at KP to support Doddieís charitable foundation. This isnít just about raising money, although that of course is one of the aims, it is also about raising awareness of MND, something that Doddie is somewhat passionate about. For an example of how this can be done , a group of former Falcons players will walk the haggis from the Scottish border at Carter Bar, all the way to Kingston Park over two days. This will gain a bit of publicity, and there will be opportunities for people to join the walk from near Ponteland to Kingston Park. It is former players who are behind all this, so all sorts of nonsense is possible, all in good humour, and all in a good cause.

The theme of the event is to be a bit low key. The man behind it all is Stuart Grimes, like Doddie a former Falcon and Scotland international player, and he wants it to be something that ordinary supporters can support, so no £500 tickets, no auctions to sell prizes for thousands of pounds, just affordable tickets, an ordinary raffle (but with cracking prizes), and nothing too flash. It is intended to be an event that we ordinary mortals can enjoy & do our bit to support Doddieís fantastic cause. Present and former players will of course be there, so it should be a good social bash & a chance to catch up with friends old and new. There will be the usual piper, whisky on the tables, haggis, a dessert that will definitely make you laugh, and during the evening, video links from some people you might know who canít be there on the night.

Details will be announced soon, this is just a heads-up to give you some advanced notice. It is not a Supporters Club event, but we will be providing help such as selling tickets, sorting the raffle on the night, and anything else that we might be asked to do to help make the night possible. It is open to all supporters, not just members of the Supporters Club, and I canít emphasise enough how determined the organisers are to ensure that this is an event that is accessible to all, something different from the higher-profile events that are out of the reach of a lot of people. When tickets go on sale it is likely that they will go rather quickly, so watch out on here, and on the Supporters Club website, Facebook & Twitter notices.

Thank you.
