I am tired of saying how strong our team looks then putting a curse on them, so I will say nothing about this one.

Craig Maxwell-Keys eh! You have to feel sorry for both teams really.

Flood due a big game as hasn't shown much of the quality we know he has. I would have preferred to have seen Willis at 10, but let's see.
Both teams low on confidence and difficult to call, but we have a squad to win, if we're not destroyed upfront.

I thought Willis looked sharp on Monday sorry he's not in the team

Re: Fri 1st Dec Northampton Saints v Falcons

On paper that looks a lot better but as Monkey alluded too that hasn't always guaranteed success!

Shame that JPS is not available, one of a small minority who can make yards through collisions.

Strong fast Saints pack. Is Brookes injured or out of favour?

On our side both Mermoz and DTH VD Merwe have hardly featured since their much publicised signings.

Don't care how we do it, but a win is much needed.Fingers crossed!!

Brookes is out for 6 weeks with an injured hand. Enjoy the trip if any of you are travelling.

Would like a to see Radawan or Kibirgie given a ago in place on Sinoti. Also DTH and Goneva have both been playing 13 for their countries so could be an option if Harris doesn't find his early season form.

I would of liked for us to have maybe picked Radwan, Kibirige or Willis. smiling smiley

Regardless of personnel we need a flippin good performance tomorrow night!

Matavesi and Flood stand out for me as players who owe us a big game after high profile signings and flattering to deceive so far!

Goneva back is a huge positive. The guy is simply immense and a match winner.

But we need to give Sinotti some more space aswell. He's doing a huge amount of grunt work at the moment as he's getting the ball in no space and expected to work miracles.

For me a win is essential for motivation, but style and actual performance is equally important, to lift the fans.

I think people are overlooking the key ingredient our 9 tane has been hugely missed. The other two 9's are not a patch on tane

Bedlington Lad 01 December, 2017 07:57
I'm disappointed we've hardly seen Mermoz so far this season and Flood looked like he hurt his hamstring after one kick last weeek. Not very hopeful, an LBP would be something

Re: Fri 1st Dec Northampton Saints v Falcons
upwardonward 01 December, 2017 10:21
I would love to take something from this game and I think we have a super chance.

I have to admit it's a lot stronger side than previous weeks, and as someone said,Tane has been a big miss ,as has Goneva.

I hate to say this but I do think Rob Vicker's age is catching up with him. However I do love the guy and is he lethal from 5 /10 cm!

I also like Burrows at 8.Strong tackler and good ball carrier.Spills a lot less than Latu or gives away as many penalties.
IMO I would always combine him with Welch and Wilson at 7/8.

JPS does give us some punch, and would always,IMO,if fit have him on the bench.

Mermoz needs to stand up to the plate soon.Presume he must be carrying an injury.

COYF.

Haven't seen the best of any of our higher profile signings as yet. Let's hope tonight is the start of something new!

I really hope that Santi Socino and Craig Willis come back into contention for the Premiership soon. They were a breath of fresh air at the start of the season.

I was going to say diving into the driving maul was a pointless exercise but it wasn't because it was seven points against us. Flood should have just let the maul be and would still be on the pitch.

So Gibson knocks ball out of Tane’s hand. Should have had a kick for 20-12.
Instead Saints score.

Hopefully we don’t have to deal with Maxwell Keys again for another few months.

And that player threw the ball in to the crowd quickly so we couldbt take the quick lineout...thats a penalty offence actually. Nothing given.

Ref is bad.....HOWEVER we are absolutely rubbish!!! And can't blame the ref.

The changes made a difference and I hope Flood doesn't turn into the new Delaney. Hodgson brought pace to our attack, and anxiety to the saints defensive line.
Just nice to end the losing streak, and that's 4 wins in a row against saints. Well done to the lads.

We won, why are we complaining. Northampton have a good side on paper, big crowd and hard place to go. A good win. Our team needs some consistency in playing together. Flood has been injured, Tane away, Goneva away, mermoz injured, cooper injured etc. I think we ll get better again. Flood has a very good rugby brain and is quality. Can JPS play outside centre?

Re: Fri 1st Dec Northampton Saints v Falcons
NorfolkFalcon 01 December, 2017 21:49
Gutsy performance. The lads really battled out there and dug deep. What won us the guy was crucial jackal turnovers, strong defensive mauls and strong defence on our try line.

The tries showed glimpses of what we can do when we get it right. You'll struggle to find a better try than the second score.

I think the criticism of Flood is a little harsh. He has only made 3 Premiership starts for us! We didn't help but playing one dimensional i.e. pass it straight to him. We needed the shorter option or Tane to take it on himself occasionally to vary our phases and give him more space. Comparing him to Delany is like comparing a Bentley to a Skoda. We need to continue supporting him.

Notable mentions to Hodgson and Latu who made a big impact coming off the bench. They made significant contributions and I don't think we would of scored that winning try without them.

Bet the Saints hate playing us now especially at the Gardens. Two late winners.

Some need reminding that we won by the looks of it...

I don’t think you can blame flood too much (bar the yellow and the pass to no one). There was nothing inside him to hold the defence so the just rushed him every time. They need to mix up playing off 9 and playing off 10. Keeping the defence guessing creates space.

Tough game with very little backline fluidity but we have some good individuals that can turn momentum that we’re maybe missing last week.

Harris was a beast in defence and the line out was rock solid.

I have a Skoda and am about to buy another one. Can you get two bikes in a Bentley?

Re: Fri 1st Dec Northampton Saints v Falcons
Cantabrian 01 December, 2017 22:01
That was a great gutsy team victory. Old heads, some international talent with a bit of youthful energy combined for a never say die victory. Special mention for Chris Harris; back to his best.

Lots to improve on, but hey we won and deservedly so. Onward and upward again. Phew and Woohoo!!!

Re: Fri 1st Dec Northampton Saints v Falcons
Leipziger 01 December, 2017 22:04
Funnily enough someone was telling me today how they had a brilliant Skoda in the 1980s.

Agree with Norfolk that the criticism of Flood is harsh - he's been injured some of the time with us and has only played 6 or 7 games. Are we really in the business of writing players off if they don't play like an All Black in peak form in their first three months, especially experienced tier 1 internationals who have won multiple trophies at the highest level?

Re: Fri 1st Dec Northampton Saints v Falcons
Wensleydale Falcon 01 December, 2017 22:16
Two sides that had suffered 4 losses on the bounce in the Premiership and it certainly showed for the first 20 minutes. Scrappy and nervous due to a total lack of confidence!!
You have to give it to our boys though as there were numerous turnovers in our own 22 tonight and especially when we were a man down we showed our mental strength. Patience got us through in the end.
Not at our best but let's be honest.....an away win at FG is a massive result!!
Get in!

Re: Fri 1st Dec Northampton Saints v Falcons

agree re harris absolutely top notch defence, although not pretty its another 4 points in the bank puts us in good fettle for Europe.

Re: Fri 1st Dec Northampton Saints v Falcons
Cantabrian 01 December, 2017 22:20
The criticism of Flood is indeed harsh. At Toulouse, he played a lot at 12 and it will take him some time to adjust both to the Premiership and playing at 10. He was standing like a 12 instead of a 10 which was too far away from Takalua and this led to a disjointed attack.

Nevertheless he played with great spirit and will only get better.

Re: Fri 1st Dec Northampton Saints v Falcons
DB23 01 December, 2017 22:22
Disclipline was very good too, apart from Flood’s yellow, with only nine penalties conceded.

Maxwell-Keys doesn’t appear to have a feel for the game and is just an arbiter of the rules. We were probably on the right side of decisions tonight which is not always the case.

As disappointing as recent premiership defeats have been, I would have taken 24 points after 10 games at the start of the season.

Re: Fri 1st Dec Northampton Saints v Falcons
digitalsys 01 December, 2017 22:22
A few seasons ago, we would have lost that.

Don't underestimate the home crowd - it was like a pantomime - not sure if that came across on tv. Boos galore - home fans were not impressed with their team.

We wrote Jimmy off until he left and then he suddenly became the best player in the world.
