I hate ref bashing but he is the worst in the league by a country mile.

To be fair it was only his 12th Premiership game but it did show.

Watched the full match replay and he appears to have had a lot of guidance from his assistants and TMO, as when you watch closely he makes a lot of late decisions.

Very quiet and did not communicate as well with the players as the more experienced guys do (but that will only come with experience and more games)

It is an extremely difficult job folks and at times we should try (it,s difficult in the heat of battle) to cut them a bit of slack!

He doesn't seem to have any feel for the game and doesn't look anywhere near ready for Premiership games. He did us vs Sale as well and lost control.

Agree entirely.

We got reffed of the park for most of the second half against Exeter, and it is easy to have a go at the referee & shower blame upon him. On the other hand however he is relatively new, and he isn't going to learn unless he gets experience of Prem games.

Exeter are a tough old team, and you could suspect that they were just better in the second half, after a good talking to, at getting the best out of the referee. We have said for years that we lack the skills of being cute to referees, maybe Exeter were better at it, and if so, that is all part of the game. We should get better at playing the referees to their strengths and weaknesses, not moan about others doing so, which we have seen on here for years.

"We should get better at playing the referees to their strengths and weaknesses, not moan about others doing so, which we have seen on here for years." I agree, however on Sunday, inexperienced or not, he blatantly ignored off feet at rucks and diving in at the side - I forget which board I saw it on but someone called them the Exeter Excoets - which seems very apt

In his Sky feature, Stuart Barnes referred to Exeter's ability to seal the ball off, which from Sunday's evidence means players going off their feet. It's clearly something they do on a regular basis.
I sort of suspect that Prem referees only penalise teams for technical offences like sealing off, going in at the side etc if there is a genuine contest for the ball. It seems like the team that are odds on to win the ball can get away with it.
If such interpretations for the professional game are permissible, perhaps it's time to allow pro players to ruck in the good old way once again? It would solve the problem of players sealing off the ball quite quickly I suspect and because it was for pros only, concerned parents wouldn't need to worry about the safety of their offspring whilst playing for school/club etc.

I watched he whole game again on premier rugby tv

I agree with all of the decisions the ref gave in the second half.

He was right.

I didn’t like it at the time but he was right.

That doesn’t mean I don’t query how he only had an Exeter whistle in his gob.

Crikey, good job we didn't snatch it at the end reading you lot at the moment.
You played well, beat us on a great first half performance.
Stop over analysing, your great supporters, else we'll have to start comparing you to the Tigers faithfull for never being happy (Sm151)

OMG

The poor ref would have never gotten out alive if we had not held on

Torn to shreds I fear if Exeter had won, torn to shreds.

He had a lucky escape then.

I remember the Tigers were moaning about players not contesting in the ruck being taken out against Exeter and even he ref warned Exteter about it against us but they never penalise them.

Just bear with us a bit longer mate, we're still in shock. Maybe a bit of vertigo too, we're not used to being this high up looking down, instead of at the bottom looking up. You might be used to winning games like these but it's still fairly new to us.

Nurse!

I need some of that stuff again.

We have been at the bottom, I am not criticising in a serious sense.
But if you don't enjoy they great way your team are playing and instead go into this "we are so hard done by" mode you will not truly enjoy it.

All the best for the rest of the season, we may both make top four then meet again, would be good.

That would.be an excellent prospect!!! I hope you are right.

Virtually Half Exeter’s team today didn’t start last week but that still doesn’t make our fantastic win any easier as you can only play what’s in front of you but that was hugely impressive from Exeter today and the 2 tries from Woodburn pretty special.

We beat an outstanding team last week, let’s not kid ourselves.
