Mitchell is guesting for the A team tonight at Worcester. A 32 year old ex Welsh international tight head was released by the Dragons a season or so ago was at Bath on trial last season when he got a nasty shoulder dislocation which ended his time there. A big lad over 19 stone used to be a decent player so whether he is on trial or just helping out we will find out in due time.

There were a number of "guest players" in the side, and apparently they are players that the Falcons were having a look at / keeping an eye on.

Meanwhile some clubs like Wasps cancelled games last season without any penalty it would seem.

It is nonsense really we had 6/7 guest players and were left wondering where some of our academy were.

Also worth a mention that 6 of the squad last night are former or current members of the Gosforth Academy AASE scheme. This has only been going a few years and is still developing and changing. Its great to see players from all walks of life and backgrounds being developed. The Falcons need to look outside the traditional pool of private school pupils as we just dont have the player numbers up north. The "gossy" boys are mainly Falcons academy players but you still have a good mix of club talent in there too and the brand of rugby they play is very exciting if at times risky.
To be encouraged!
