I know there are some on here who won't agree, but I was delighted to see that Bristol absolutely thumped Leicester this weekend, a 41-10 mullering, and to cap it all, in front of their home crowd. As a believer in promotion & relegation, it restores my faith that the system still works.

I now look forward to us thumping Bristol when we visit Ashton Gate, to show them that we are better than Leicester, but for now I am happy to see that we have a properly competitive league this season, with very few points separating quite a lot of teams, and no obvious candidate for relegation. I can see this season going right to the wire, and that has to be good for the league.

They've made a mess of playoffs for years and now they've got a massive budget for players so what does this actually prove? Isn't the test if London Irish with a more restrained budget return and survive a better indicator?

We survived promotion , Worcester did and Exeter smashed it, all relatively recent. Bristol looking strong enough to this season so I'd say that's enough even if Irish didn't next season.

I think so, if anything the last couple of seasons have given more fuel to the idea of ringfencing with the current 12 teams in there. Hope it doesn't happen though.

I think you need to support Bristol.

I donít get the love in for them.

I hope all of the sides around us get beat in every game and we sail up the league to safety, only then can some of them start winning again.

I don't think so. I may be wrong, but it looks like London Irish are jiggered, structurally & financially. If they can't stay up in the Premiership it is not because promotion & relegation is failing, it is because London Irish are failing. Bristol are exactly the opposite, well run & in rude financial health. If Bristol can't make the jump, it suggests nobody can, in which case the system no longer works. If London Irish can't get back up & stay up, that merely suggests that London Irish no longer works.

That argument reads a bit like having some cake and eating it Monkey
