Has anyone got their tickets for the match at SJP yet? I booked mine the day they went on sale, they were supposed to be posted out on Wednesday and still not got mine yet? Just wondering if anyone else has received theirs through the post?

Just rang the club shop and apparently they have had a bit of a delay in sending them out as they are waiting for match day leaflets and info to go in with the tickets before sending them out. They are expecting the leaftlets today or tomorrow morning and will be sending the tickets out first class when they get them.

It is in hand but is still a bit worrying as I thought I would have had my tickets by now, but they seem to be doing all they can to sort the issue and will be sending them out ASAP......

Is there any idea what numbers we are looking at?

Wasn't it around the 30k mark last year?

It was 30,000 last year and the club are predicting it should be in that region again his year even though it is a Tougher sell

Ah I’d meant to call the shop as we haven’t got ours yet either, but will sit tight for this week now.

I haven’t had anything to confirm season tickets were bought - no email or letter or anything. The money went out my account so assume it’s all kosher but is it normal not to get anything?

I know it'll cost a bit more but presumably I can get tix on the day. I'm meeting a load of footy fans for a few beers, my aim being to persuade/cajole then into a trip to SJP to see us beat Sale and move ahead of Wuss. Given that I can't guarantee my persuasive powers will work, I guess (hope) I'm ok pitching up on the day.

The club have confirmed that ticket sales have hit 20000
Still plenty time yet as well to get that even higher
20000 is a good total considering our league position, England at SJP and Champions Cup finals as well both on sale

if that figure comes up to the 30,000 mark then it will have been a great effort by the club and fans to make it a success.

but even now it is a success in getting the profile of the club up and proving that bigger numbers are possible.

Sensible question, and the simple answer is yes, in person in the office at the very beginning of the period and chose one of the "yellow seats" ( and did the same for my mate next to me at the same time)

Another thought occurs. Last year when I couldn't go I didn't order my ticket and got several emails reminding me that I hadn't. As I've not had such emails this year then they must have noted my order. If it doesn't come tomorrow I'll go in.

The Six Nations is ring fenced and it doesn’t seem to affect attendances.

You can't sensibly compare a domestic league with the Six Nations in that way.

They’re discussing bringing in relegation to the Six Nations, do people think that would improve the crowds?

That's a very strange comparison 2 or 3 home games against a season.

I'd expect marketing to be much easier for a must win game than an effectively dead rubber with nothing really to play for.

Could comapre ring fenced PRO14 last round to last round of prem games - wonder how different they'd be at the end of season too. Falcons v Briistol if it's a decider for who goes down would probably sell out , if it was to see who finished 11th or 12th with no relegation would it ?

If we're to believe that relegation is what people want to see, though, surely the logical argument is that relegation in the Six Nations would bring an increase in crowds for the games with relegation riding on them?

An Italy v Scotland relegation decider to sell out Stadio Olimpico?

I appreciate club rugby is not identical to international rugby, but the relegation v no relegation argument surely still stands?

It's just the double standards that gets me, people saying the Prem has to have relegation but the Six Nations doesn't. I don't get the thinking. It's either both have it or neither has it, surely?

Anyway, I really didn't mean to get into this argument, so I'll apologise and leave it there.

I say both should , and most games sell out or close to anyway but if not am guessing they would as that bit extra excitement. Its what what people see but when there's something on the line it has a big match feel about it rightly or wrongly.

Re: Tickets for Big One

Most autumn internationals sell out already I think in England, Ireland, Wales and Scotland, so at international level it doesn't even have to be a competitive game to have a huge crowd. Mind, just looking at Italy's attendances in this year's 6N, the highest was just short of 50,000 so plenty of empty seats. They keep losing but there's no consequence, so people might be disinterested, I don't know.

We made the Guardian's rugby page:
Anyone in the north of England – or the south of Scotland – whose appetite for rugby has been heightened by last Saturday’s extraordinary Calcutta Cup game should take a trip to Newcastle this Saturday. The Falcons are taking on Sale Sharks at St James’ Park, where they almost trebled their record attendance figure when 30,174 watched last season’s “Big One” against Northampton.

Newcastle’s special black-and-white striped shirts will also feature a tinge of tartan in support of the My Name’5 Doddie Foudation, set up by the former Newcastle favourite Doddie Weir to fund research into motor neurone disease. Tickets are available by calling 0871 226 6060 or visiting the Falcons website.

There should be a decent crowd popping across the Pennines from Sale. When we were at the last Sale game. a load of them were saying what a great day out it would be, ground in the city centre, remembered how good the RWC games there had been. Nothing but positive comments from the Sale camp.

tenner bet ?

so Falcons aren't going to select their best back row player, in a game which they need to win, when he is stated as fit and available?

Is it just me or is anyone still waiting on there tickets? I’m so frustrated with it all. I understand the club is busy but when you live 4 hours from Kingston Park it’s not as of I can just pop in. Fair play to Smithy he’s given me an email to complain but it’s so frustrating when you have to change your plans and come into town early to collect tickets at St. James Park ticket office.
