Open letter to DL Post call
frogman007(jimmy) 21 February, 2012 09:38
Dave you seem to be the only connection (that I am aware of) to the club on here. You have always been very approachable and even gave me some good tips when I took part in the Magners kicking comp. To that end, can you shed any light on the state of the club. Without spin and maybe a refreshing piece of honesty could you answer the following couple of points?

1. Is the club aware of how p***** off the fans are with week in and week out with constant dire performances?

2. In the days of pro players-do they really care? (Seems not)

3. Is there a concern that next years attendances are more than likely to drop massively (relegation or not), if we carry on in this vain?

I am sure you have many reasons why you can't or prefer not to answer, however I feel over the last few years we have lost that "connection" to the club and are seen as muppets that pay up and watch regardless!

Thanks in advance.

Jimmy, Dave is both big enough and ugly enough to look after himself, but you might need to consider he is an employee of the Club and as such would not be expected to make public comments of the sort you are requesting.

I would not even think of presuming of putting words into his mouth, or even pretend in the slightest to speak for him, but I would be very surprised if the answer to all three of your questions was "yes".

Morning frogman007(jimmy),

Please give me a call on 01494 531122 to discuss.

Obviously I am an employee (and would like to remain so), but I can chat through some of the issues you raise and be as PC as I can. If I can help, I can assure you that I will.

I would rather not enter in to a mass of written dialogue on this site simply because I have asked on several occasions for our supporters to be as positive as possible to create some positivity around the team and get behind them. If we don't, we could be facing the worst prospect imaginable.

In times like this, it doesn't matter how p155ed off we are...its about getting behind 15 boys in black & gold shirts and giving them as much as we can to drive them forward. After they've won the 2 to 3 games we need to win, then we can address everything else.

I'm in the office most of today.

Regards,

Dave

Well said Dave.

I personally think communication with the fans has been much better this season with updayes and "Dai's Reaction" after every game.

I think we are all frustrated and desperate fro issues to be resolved and better performances and the two perhaps are not unrelated...

I just want us to stay up this year, recruit well and do better next year.

Jimmy, I would rather you didn't presume to speak for me.

Fair one Dave call you this afternoon.

Well Done Dave.

It is up to all of us, as supporters, to get behind the players, coaches and employees of "our" club and encourage them even more during this particularly difficult time. Go for it!

The performances may be dire at times and the club may be in a relegation battle, but sometimes the cynical attitude of so called fans p!sses me off more than watching us lose.

We've all spent our hard earned cash to watch them play, some more than others and some a higher percentage of their disposable income than others.

We're all entitled to feel how we like about the performances, but to suggest the players simply don't care (as has also been suggested on other threads by other posters) is an insult to them.

I think Wasps is a breath of fresh air when it comes to communicating with the supporters...you should try supporting Notts County. Public Relations is an anathema to them! As a result, despite being relatively secure (at the moment) in mid-table there is a huge amount of negativity around the place.

I found Dave a genuine, open and honset man when he helped arrange for my daughetr to run out with Serge against Sarries last year. It was a pleasure to meet him. I agree whole heartedly with what he says - lets get this season sorted out first!

I am totally behind Dave. To say the team does not care is beyond me. The look on the faces of the players when that penalty was given against us summed it all up.

Please get behind the team. I have done since the 80s when we lost all those final against Bath.

YOUR TEAM NEEDS YOU!

First off thank you Dave for taking my call. Great call and as I mentioned before a very approachable man, who like myself maybe wears his heart on his sleeve.

My main point of the post and the call (the post aimed at Dave due to his likeable approach) was my sheer desperation of paying good money week in and week out to see (some) players go through the motions, make errors and not seem to care. Where we sit in the table, is where we are, I can live with that and to a certain extent I can almost live with relegation, providing I hand on heart knew the players felt the pain we do.

I am assured by Dave (a few points will remain confidential) that the players feel gutted post match and that is a good sign that shows some of them care, I just feel there a too many times when mistakes are made, some players are thinking "Oh well stil get paid this week".

I am and could well be wrong, (unlike some on here who always think they are right), and am always happy to stand corrected. As I said to Dave, that as a military man, with both limited time and finances, can I justify paying for a product, that in my opinion is not delivering.

That said I have been watching Wasps from the age of seven and have done for a further thirty five years. Despite my massive concern that the the club has the potential (though HUGELY assured by DL that we are fine) to vanish down the leagues, I will still be there for the rest of the season and WILL be cheering the boys on and will save my post match analysis for here.

I am informed by Dave that he was advised not to get involved in this post and fully understand he will not reply to it, but I am extremely grateful that he had the decency to take my call and again grateful we had the maturity to discuss the matter posted in much detail.

So to add to the open letter here is another-

Thank you Dave Larham for your time to hear me out, your pragmatic approach and as a fellow serviceman the understanding of my frustrations. Thank you.

frogman007(jimmy),

Thank you for adding a well-written summary post. Your passion and enthusiasm for this great club is beyond doubt; and I thank you for all the times you have supported the boys.

Keep the faith,

Dave

Maybe Bon Jovi's 'Keep the Faith' would be a more apt tune to play as the boys run out.

Daeg,

One thing at a time. We're more likely to get Chico than Bon Jovi!!

As long as it isn't that Springsteen song "going down"... (Sm141)

I always love the song "London Calling" by the Clash as it has bags of attitude and just right for a London club... Keep it rockin' dudes...

'We are the champions' or 'Simply the best' had a much better ring to them.

London Calling does it for me. I love it when that comes on...gets me ready nicely!

Anyone that reads my posts will know what I am about. I will not have doomongers pushing their rubbish on this site. We all love the club and I am behind the boys every match...week in week out...through thick and thin....thick when at Twickenham we beat Leicester (against all the odds) in the Heineken cup final 2007....thin where we are now.....but I have siad it before and I will say it again...we won't be relegated. EVERYONE GET BEHIND THE BOYS AND SUPPORT THEM SO THEY KNOW HOW WE ALL FEEL ABOUT THIS GREAT CLUB !!

What rather than your never ending optimism? And who made you moderator?

We all love the club, but endlessly posting happy and cheerful posts about how everything is ok when it's obviously not and arguing with anyone who says anything negative about the team or club just makes you seem like you have your head in the sand.

And Ive said it before as well - getting behind the team in the stands has NOTHING to do with criticising the team/club/tactics etc on here. I may be unhappy with whats going on at Wasps, but it doesnt stop me supporting them any less. Seeing the mess our club is hurts all the more because of my support.
