Every single one of our back row yesterday is still listed on the club website as academy players - and are only 20 (Launchbury/Jones) and 19 (Vunipola) - yet they outplayed the Gloucester backrow all game. These guys have developed magnificently with gametime this season - but would they have had this chance if we hadnt had this injury list/forced retirements?
Any one else with long enough memories reminded of when Judas and his crew jumped ship to go to Newcastle, and suddenly made space in the first team for that raw young Anglo-Italian lad? In fact Judas going, and the opportunities that presented to younger players, launched the greatest period in Wasps history.
The back row who turned out yesterday could be the future of Wasps in just the same way. And a few years down the line it's not impossible to imagine all three of them running out in a white shirt at Twickenham, there's that much potential.
