Thanks for absolutely everything, Rob. I am all agog for the next installment.

Any chance of a Wasps biography 1985- current?

A fascinating piece from a man who has dedicated so many years to the club - and how his words that were true in 1995 are still apt now:

"Wasps had massively overachieved year on year on the field . . . but we had little money"

Even in the glory years the club - as opposed to the team - had few solid foundations and we may soon end up paying the price.

Will Premier Rugby and the RFU allow Wasps to be cast adrift as they did to Richmond and London Scottish? Those clubs, to their immense credit, have resurrected themselves, but they had the golden asset of their own ground to fall back on. The empty pit that was Loftus Road plc deprived us of Sudbury, which may have been totally unsuitable for professional rugby but was at least ours.

The immediate future is uncertain and looking extremely bleak.

Give the editor some credit!

Part 2 is already here, as is a piece from Allan Gee, but waiting for just before the next time the site dies goes offline to use them ... :-)

Is there a bigger picture of how the ground at Sudbury would have looked?

(Just so I can weep a little longer).

Thanks for this. Oddly came across the newsletter that had this picture of the proposed stadium development earlier on today. I have long felt if only we'd done this just a year before, we'd have had our very own Franklin's Gardens in Sudbury....so close!
Thanks again for the article.

I recall going to the speech room at Harrow School for a meeting and voting for/against the club going professional.
The players were sitting behind me and I remember Andy Gomersall cheering when it became obvious how the voting had gone.Chris Wright was then introduced as I made one of my numerous visits to the " Castle" that evening
