The old Oxford Road H.Wycombe to West Wycombe is
relentlessly straight, noisy and soul destroying.
When I've walked from the rail station, I walk
along Castle Street, cross the front of the bus
station Bridge Street - Desborough Road - Green
Street - Dashwood Avenue, Mile End Road - Lane
End Road - Hillbottom Road - AP. I would expect
to walk from the rail Station to AP in 40 mins]
2 variations :
a] when you reach Desborough Road, take a left
road turning and about 50m up the hill there is
a grotty path on the right that travels between
the backs of buildings all the way to Green St.
[a ramshackled, grim path, that must be a right
of way used in Victorian times .... and earlier]
b] instead of turning left on to Mile End Road
continue straight on Gallows Lane, at the end
facing you is a long set of steps that climb
very steeply up hill leading to a marked
footpath that leads through the nature reserve
wood - at the end of the wood a woodland path
on the left cuts through the trees to a seat
and a footpath down to the AP upper car park.
[and thats another geat way to arrive, plus
views showing AP set into the landscape]
- and there are buses H.Wycombe to W. Wycombe
