Remaining group Euro Cup Matches

Stating the obvious I know but that game between Ulster and ASR is so important to us that exactly how do we want that to end up ? 0-0 ? 2 points each..

ASR to win with Ulster getting ZIP !
Ulster win ASR get Zip !

A win is a must. Hopefully with a Bonus Point..
Too close to call this group.

a draw would be best of course, but in reality ASR will get 5 points next week

therefore, a win for them means the group is theirs and if Ulster get zip we have a chance of getting 2nd

a win for Ulster gives us a chance of winning the group

Ultimately we need 10 points from these last 2 games and then we will qualify I think - no matter what happens in the other games

We're 5 points adrift of La Rochelle. If we assume they will pick up the full 5 at home to Quins next week, then even if they come away from Ulster with nothing and we take all 10 points still on offer then we cannot catch them.

If teams are level on points then first tie breaker is match points between the 2 (5-1 away + 4-0 at home = 5-5), so it comes down to points difference in the two matches between the 2 (49-29 away + 21-3 home means La R edge it 52-50).

With that in mind, the best result for Wasps will be a La Rochelle win to leave us better placed in the scrap for second with Ulster.

We need 5 today. 15 points with a game left. LR are getting 5 next week. 20, plus whatever they muster against ulster today. They have put out a stronger team than they did against us, I would like them to get 5, and ulster 0.
We are 3 points behind ulster.
Then you potentially get into ko rugby. How many points need for 2nd place qualification?? Can we beat ulster, can we restrict them to 0, or 1lbp. 2 lbp may mean a head to head over or 2 fixtures v ulster.

All very exciting and all very changeable over the next week!

Now left needing a 5-0 win next week and other results to go in our favour. Highly unlikely but look how Exeter scraped through to play us in the QF 2 seasons back

Our max point haul is limited to 17. Not enough, our Euro adventure is over this year.

No way will a team progress with 17 points. Looking at the pools there is a very real chance of no Premiership representative in the last 8. Sarries and Exeter in with a shout of a runners up spot but will be looking for other results to go their way. Wasps, Quins, Tigers, Bath and Saints all very long shots at best.

Clearly tigers saints and Quins can’t quslufy there are scenarios I think where Bath can Toulon beat scarlets sarries could lose to a resurgent Saints so WAdos could squeeze they but unlikely

I will be surprised to see more than 2 qualify and not one home quarter final among the 7 premiership teams. English clubs will be seen to have come up short in Europe and inevitably some will use this as evidence that the salary cap needs to be increased rather than look at their own shortcomings.

It's mathematically possible for us to qualify on 17 pts, but it would require a completely bizarre sequence of results in the other pools for that to happen. On the Sarries board, they are doubting that their side would qualify even with 18 pts.

Most likely only Exeter, and possibly Bath, will be in the last 8.

It will be interesting to see what kind of side Dai selects for next week. Time to give some of the second choice players a run out, and rest some of the 'stars' who have played almost every week recently?

Think Sarries will qualify on 18.

The structure of our league will come under intense scrutiny this year, as will the reffing of our league.
The Irish and French seem well placed to rotate this year again, whilst we are fielding second string teams due to injury.
One wonders if a two conference 14 team Premiership is around the corner.

Our injury list and the Euro squad preclude resting more than one or two next week

Is Garrat broken as well?

Cruse can start, so can Armitage, Hampson with Porter on the bench at 9, Harris starting at loosehead, Miller at 15, Myall and Gaskell starting in 2nd row, Owain James if fit can start in place of Wade.

There's a fair few we could use, but I doubt Dai is interested in letting a big score against us at the Ricoh, especially with the AW weeks coming up.

There’s two weeks of Anglo welsh coming up they can rest then. After the poor showing on Saturday the players need to get back out there and show some metal with a thumping win on Sunday. If they go into an effectively 3 weeks break, if they have a rest this week, on a ‘down’ then they will come back to the AP on that basis. The next AP game is back at The Stoop. The team need to get out there next weekend and show that saturdays result hurt. Excuses via social media are easy to offer up. They now have to show the resolve to pick themselves up and fight for a bit of dignity and that embarrassment.

We have to go out and try to do what we know we need to do to have even the faintest hope of progressing. Of course by kick off we should have a pretty clear idea, but not by Friday when the team's announced so I expect to see the strongest available. Then we need to go out and show the kind of commitment and honesty that Quins did to their enormous credit in what for them was a dead rubber. Learn from that.

I would hope any fit players are deeply embarrassed and are loudly saying they want to remedy the faults from Saturday. I don't want us to limp into the next stage. Play Ulster as best we can then take the AW matches to rest and give players game time. Armitage looked lost at times and needs to get linking better as do some others who stepped up. I suspect we may have more injuries though.

Or we could go out there with a strong team against a fired up Ulster side, leak yet another load of tries, lose another home game and where would that leave morale?

The second half against Quins is a bitter pill to swallow. Handed a lifeline in a group that LaR looked to have sown up, we failed to finish off a side that was playing for nothing and feebly handed over a 16 point lead. Probably the most shambolic and humiliating episode in our ECC history?

We need to chew on that and come out raging back at the scene of the crime in a few weeks and put it right with some better players. Take the hit and own it against Ulster.

Well if that happens we'll deserve everything that follows, it's an incredibly negative viewpoint. The more I think about it, I think we'd be running away from the issues if we field a weakened side.
