Nick Kennedy to leave Toulon
Posted by: Stevie J (IP Logged)

RC Toulon - Ali Williams joins, Kendo leaves

No mention of where but I imagine he is coming back to the Prem. Gloucester maybe? Wasps?

Just went to his twitter page to see if there were any clues - interesting his background is still him playing in an Irish shirt!

COME BACK KENDO WE MISS YOU!!!!

Think Nick likes the London life - if he could stomach it Queens may be in the market for a replacement for Kohn.

I think that is likely match.

Nick had a very good season and will do a top job where ever he goes. As much as I'd love to see him back, for variety of reasons, I don't think it will happen.

Agree MH in terms of Irish anyway isn't Smith quoted as looking for a couple of props and maybe a centre so not us.

Quins have Robson who fulfils the line-out role. I imagine they will be after more of a like for like replacement for Kohn. Wasps seems a better fit with Wentzel leaving.

Wasn't Kendo looking to come back to England a few months ago, but LI was out of the running (£ basis). Having said that, BS has been quoted as looking for a couple of players who are "best in their league?. Kendo fits that criteria I'd have thought....Fingers firmly crossed..

I'd have him back here in a heartbeat. We have four senior locks, Skivs, Bryn, Rouse and Low, with I presume Jebb covering there.

Kendo would be ideal for us. If moneys the issue, I suggest we all have whip round! ;-)

Not only is a quality player but he is a quality man who loves the club. His form for Toulon towards the end of the season was world class. I would absolutely love him back.

Would gladly have him back, as Evans really hit his best form when competing against Kendo (and it would help with the EQP payment situation). I'd expect Quins to look at a lump of a lock to replace Kohn and give Matthews a go from their academy.

Wasps (replacing Wentzel) and Gloucester (Brown) are also likely in the hunt for a Kennedy-type player, although LI West may push for him anyway (do we call bingo when they have ex-Irish players from 1 to 15?).

the "trumour" appears to have been deleted already....can we hope there is too much truth in it?

As good as it would be to have Kennedy back, wouldn't want to lose skivs. He was immense at the back end of the season when we needed him. I'd love to see them play together though

Nick Kennedy has favorited Jon Fisher's tweet about a lift to training, must be a positive sign!
And there is no chance skivs will leave, just extended his contract for 3 years, he had such a great season for us, but him and kendo in the second row would be a lethal pairing

As is usual with all Murdoch media the headline and story don't match. The first line of the story says:

Nick Kennedy is expected to join Harlequins

i.e. it is rumour.

I should say that I believe he has a number of mates at the Stoop (as does PDJ who has come to us).

We'll see soon enough. COYQ!

Re: Nick Kennedy to leave Toulon

Couple of thoughts.

The extremely recent retirements of Olly Kohn and Will Skinner will have freed up some of the Quins' salary cap for a big signing.

Having said "Winning the HC was a career highlight for me", never in a month of Sundays was Nick going to sign for a club that isn't competing in next season's HC.

I really like Nick and wish him well, he has given over 10 years sterling service to LI.

Good Luck to Nick - he was a great stalwart of our club and I wish him all the best for the rest of his career.

And all credit to Quins for managing their salary cap so that they still have room in it to pick up Nick after the late decision by Toulon to release him.

(There could be a touch of irony with this last comment)

Jeez, GQG!

8 seconds for a rebuttal! Are you sure you don't work for GCHQ?

OK - I need to reword my comments to say that "Quins medical staff were absolutely shocked to learn of 2 of their squad retiring due to injury related issues that they had not foreseen last week. Fortunately the money men and the talent scouts at Quins quickly identified Nick as an ideal additional to the squad given the unexpected space in the playing budget"

Is that OK, GOG? I really can't be arsed to find out which internationals have been forced to retire - Quins bore me to tears - but is Nick actually a one for one replacement, or are you changing the balance of your squad?

Actually, I really don't give a damn. All I know is that I am gutted he has not come back to us - but then we probably didn't have a windfall space in our playing budget.

That's a real shame, but good business on both sides there.

I hadn't ever heard the back story about him writing to CoS before, so that even more makes the move to Quins a sensible one.

Great to have him back in the country and fingers crossed he might even re-appear for England.
