I'm hearing rumours James O'connor is going to sign for London Irish for next season....

Seems unlikely that the ARU would want to lose their first choice 10 so I'd guess a franchise will be encouraged to pick him up. Would we want to pay top dollar for a part time player and especially one who wants to play 10?

Not convinced it makes sense from either side to be honest.

He's a decent player though, wouldn't be upset if he turned up here - but don't think it's at all likely.

O'connor is a utility back, not a specialist fly half
He has no contract in S15 the only club talking to him is Western Force, who he acrimoniously left a couple of years back
He was only their 1st choice under Deans, Quade Cooper is now 1st choice and O'connor has been axed on disciplinary grounds but is unlikely to be favoured by Ewan McKenzie, he is negotiating with League clubs too....

This sounds like his agent is angling for a big-money French deal for his client?

I was a bit confused by the title of the thread with the reference to o'shea. Presumably a play on the O'Connor/Conor but My first guess was that he might be off to Quins?!

He would certainly be a best in league signing to suit Smiffy and whiffy, but doubt he would go without Heineken Cup rugby. Perhaps Telelynx is referring to next season, I.e.2014-15 when we're back in the Heineken and have oodles of cash!

True, but my understanding was that he wanted/demanded to play 10. If that's true of the national team it seems unlikely he'd happily accept less from a club team.

That said, I don't think 10 is his best position and with Deans out maybe they will move him out anyway - as you say with McKenzie there it is likely Cooper will return (which can only be a good thing for them).

Has the ARU ever contracted players in overseas leagues? I know NZ are very against it, but can't obviously think of any players who play for Aus and are not in an S15 club. As much as he's had some trouble, I'm not sure they can afford to allow him to walk away from the squad completely - so the same argument would hold for League.

I'll keep my £1 on the Force for now but it's far from obvious where he'll end up.

Hardly a priority position for us and not sure we could offer him the money. Any side in Europe would find space for him though.

That would be a real loss for union. I'm no league expert bit oconnor doesn't seem to be ideal for that. I would love to see his abilities stay in union

Planet Rugby think he is off to Sarries. I wouldn't be surprised if he came in for Henson at Bath if he gets fired before the Rugby Championship ends and JOC becomes available.

He'd be good as a ball playing option in the outside backs but probably too pricy for us and takes a non-Kolpak slot from Jebb or Bryn.

Haven't Australia discovered, to their cost, that O'Connor ain't and never will be a #10?. Good player at FB or wing but not a 10.

He's well off form, usual story of too much pressure too young. Agree he doesnt have the experience to run a game as 10, pretty classy winger though. Can't see the French will want hi on his recent form. Lad looks completely rattled.

Rattled? Out of form? Out of position? Sounds like he'd fit in here nicely!

Well technically that's 25 days after contracts for this season start, so it was after the start of this season.....

......but I was joking dude - hence the second line of my comment. Wherever that info came from it seems like you were 100% right - time to be happy, not on a message board calling names smiling smiley

Calm down! Great that your information was correct! It's fairly obvious that there was some ambiguity in what you said though!

I disagree if you're talking about Rugger in the Cricket season and say 'next season' it's obvious to anyone with half a brain...

Oh FFS, some people just have to be right, don't they?

OK telelynx, (it looks as though) you were right about O'Connor, but if you don't mind, I'll wait until the club announce it.

And you are right about the meaning of "next season".

And you are right about Lee Harvey Oswald, reincarnation, the existence of Atlantis, the murder of Jill Dando, the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, the identity of Jack the Ripper and anything else you care magnanimously to vouchsafe to us humble planks - OK?

Sheesh!

Yeah, you're right, probably mental. That'll be due to having only half a brain I guess. What a plank I am.

Weird that Corbs, Garvey, JJ and the rest weren't training at Sunbury up until the first game though hey?

Anyway, back to staring blankly out of the window. Us half-brains can't do much else

Clearly telelynx is the screen name of one J. O'Connor, coming to Irish to put off-field shenanigans behind him and demonstrate that he isn't a disruptive influence...
