OT Rugby League World Cup Final

I have tried to get into this code, but it is just so dull!

England have it all to play for, as the arrogant Aussies have only scored once.

Still not a great game to watch!

Agreed, far too little variation in plays. However, I will watch it if at a loose end, like I am now.

At least they don't aimlessly kick the ball away.

They also dont waste a lot of time with reset scrums

Because they don't actually scrum I guess....

I lived in Ashton-In-Makerfield (Posh Wigan)...when Wigan RLFC play at home the town comes to a standstill, I have never seen such following for a club, its immense, when Wigan football play at home noone bats an eyelid.

I agree league is a dull, "look at me I am macho" game, played on the M62 Corridor..and should stay up there

Well, as one who grew up in Widnes and played both codes I still very occasionally watch a bit of league and enjoy matches like this one. Interesting that a couple of locals (footie types) were really impressed with the semi final ... in their words, riveting stuff. They don't say that much about Union...Hard luck England.

Played and followed both codes. The final wasn’t a great spectacle, the semi against Tonga was.

Both sides were out on their feet with 15 to go which shows how atttritonal it was.

I am not a great Rugby League fan, although I have to admit it is fast and when it is good, well it is good (not very often in my opinion). I find it boring that after five tackles it is then hoof it. I have to laugh at those 'up north' who refer to Union as "kick and clap".
Well RL fans your game is "five and hoof it". They are very different games.
I wish Union could/would adopt rolling subs or interchanges like our League colleagues.

I've always said a poor game of league is still watchable - not something you can say for union. The flip-side, though, is that a great game of league doesn't come close to a great game of union.

The final was fascinating but two really good sides always stifle the scoring and make it really tight. It would've been a real battle if England had managed to match the score late-on - although I think the Aussies would still have won it, they're such a good team.

You can't say anyone left anything in the tank, though.

Agreed re rolling subs. Given the current debates around player burn out and welfare in Union, maybe this would offer a partial solution. Could mean larger matchday squads needed though.

So, players go off for a spell, so they can re-energise and then come back on hitting even harder and faster. Can't see that being too good for player welfare.

It'll turn the game into a farce!

Just imagine that England get to the RWC final and every time they attack, the have Ford at 10 & then swap him for Farrell on every defensive run. And then back again.

Or swap a decent scrumaging hooker for a good lineout thrower whenever they have a line out.

Doesn't Rugby League have a limit to the number of "interchanges" a team can make in a game?

4 subs, 12 interchanges
