Has anyone identified a pub (or pubs) that we are planning on making 'Irish' for next weekend in Jersey?

We're getting a bit of a guide together that should hopefully answer a few questions you may have ahead of the trip. Give us a day or two! :-)

Well done on top-spot!

Three off us going out on Friday ex Gatwick. The Jersey Reds website gives a lot of information for travelling fans. The club bar is where we will be heading on Friday night. It will be busy.

I was in Jersey last August, and we quickly found the Cock and Bottle in the Royal Square to be a good place to congregate. There is plenty of room outside if the weather is ok, and it is in the main shopping centre of St Helier.
Four of us flying out on Friday afternoon from Gatwick for our first away trip.
See you there.

From memory of doing physio at a Geese game many moons ago, the clubhouse isn't massive and if the alickadoos from Jersey are there as a welcoming party, it will be very cramped in there.

The Clubhouse (upstairs) can take a several hundred after the match but is usually out of commission on Friday nights as they set it up for the top end official lunches on match days. The Friday "meet & greet" is usually held in the Pavilion next to the Clubhouse and is often a tad cramped but the banter is great. The club manager Sean is a top bloke who hardly ever runs out of beer - now there's a challenge for you lads. I believe only one visiting club ever managed it!

Here's the visitor info as promised. We may not have a state-of-the-art stadium, but there have been quite a lot of changes since 'many moons ago', and some extra ones specifically for this weekend. Should be a really good atmosphere at the ground before, during and after the match. See you soon!

Many moons ago was when Jersey were in South West 3 at the time, certainly over ten years ago.

Thanks for that Tom. Esp the advise re phones. I'm sure that catches a lot of people out.

I've just checked with Vodafone & as far as they're concerned, Jersey is abroad. If you have their Euro Traveler package, it's included.

Thanks Tom. With our tickets we seem to have bought a 10 meal deal in the supporters marquee. What's that all about? smiling smiley

Flying out Friday morning from Gatwick. I'll be heading for the club Friday night. I'm sure there 'll be a few well visited pubs before hand with LI supporters in them during the afternoon.

Thanks TomthePom for very informative guide.
On Friday night you say '.... Barclays Pavillion will be open between 5.30 and 7.30pm....'
Question - does the club facilities close at 7.30pm or can supporters carry on drinking/ socialising until closing time?

DaveandEl

No Friday isn't an all-nighter, just a chance to come up for a beer or 2, do a recce and then head off for a) an early night or b) a chance to tour other licensed premises around the Island like one does on a rugby tour! :-)

Tom, Are the bus tkts fixed returns or sort of all day tkts?

If all day, is there a bus pub crawl back to St Helliers that we can do?

The Liberty Bus link on the Club website outlines all sorts of return and 2 & 3 day bus passes which are great value. Having been to loads of these Friday night meet & greets (although many fewer than Tom) the best advice is to go along and talk to a few of the local supporters who will be there that night. I have a couple of Irish supporters staying at my place that weekend but I will be bringing them along on Friday and have already arranged to meet a couple of other Irish supporters I met at the return match in Reading last November. The Jersey locals will be the ones wearing red and all the lads I know who go along to the pre-match meet & greets will be very pleased to help - unless they think you are from Guernsey as you are wearing green. The most popular crawls post meet & greet are probably:
1. St Aubin - which is about a mile down the hill via the No9 or No15 bus and the must go to pubs are The Trafalgar and the Tenby. There are loads of places to eat in St Aubins.
2. Beaumont - About half a mile from St Aubin in the direction of St Helier try the The Goose
3. St Helier - Countless venues but the must go to is the Lamplighter.

Thoroughly enjoyed our weekend in Jersey last weekend (despite the result - richly deserved by Jersey Red). Met some great LI fans (hi to Paula and Bill from Somerset and the rest of the gang).

Come on you Irish

Paul
