I believe it was 8 years ago Exeter were promoted to the Premiership. They came into the Premiership without the Sarries, Harlequins, Leicester etc level of bank account. If I remember rightly we played the on our St Patricks Day match and beat them.

Within 7 years they are Premiership Champions, here in the 8th Season they top the League again and putting Leicester to the sword.

A success story it itself, hats off to them.I know we all have our views, but we were well established in 2009......why can Exeter achieve what they have and we plummet to new lows.

Since 2009 we have had the players, Im sure our bank balance were not too dissimilar to Exeter when they were promoted. Our support was great, even when we lost matches we played reasonably well.

We need to take a lesson from Exeter and Rob Baxter, Im sure many of you have your own points, but its a disaster where we are.

They own their own ground, fill it most weeks, have a huge catchment area to draw talent from. I would say their revenue streams and ticket prices would be much higher than ours.

Exeter are a great club and have achieved magnificent things, nothing but admiration for them. Think every club in the league admires them.

Their fitness and strength is brilliant. Their backs clear out rucks better than many other teams’ forwards do.

Their development of young West Country players is easily the best in the country, and they then turn guys like Short and Woodburn, who were fringe players for their previous teams, into very fine players

And Rob Baxter seems like a fantastic bloke and coach, who must be great to play for.

Exeter are a fantastic club that have done superbly well. But to suggest that they did this on a lower budget than other clubs is a myth.

Baxter..... the coach who took them up from the championship? the coach who Exeter stuck by through thick and thin? The coach who leaned his trade by bringing through young players in the club, nurturing them into full internationals? The coach who was given time and money..... that Baxter?

If I could pick one thing to pin point the reason for our overall ‘failure’ it would us not securing a home even after all this time of professional rugby.
With a home you have the most important aspect in place. We should ask sarries to share for a little while we head closer to London. We let those pesky neighbours on The Avenue sway the council. All they had to put up with was 12 or so home games a year. Now, as a result of their ignorance and stupidity they have a housing estate and gym behind them which has traffic all year round disturbing their leafy suburbia. Without a proper sustainable home, it really doesn’t matter what else we do.

We (Wuss) have been asking this question for years.

If there is a one word answer, it’s:-

Continuity.
