Seems that Ben Ransom has left as suspected. His Instagram account describes himself as a retired athlete undertaking an MBA at Oxford.

Good luck to him. Certainly leaves us light on the wing and a shame as he really performed in the Championship last time.

Edit - Also no longer on the squad page on the Offie

Played great when selected, but the coaches didn't often select him. The same sad story as many a fine sportsperson.Might make the varsity team when he unretires himself.

So for the start of the season we have 1 fit senior winger in topsy plus Loader and hassel Collins from the academy.
I suspect fowlie will see quite a lot of game time at wing this year along with the likes of hearn etc

Fowlie now playing on the wing seems quite likely, which is a shame having finally made inroads in securing the number 13 jersey.

Yep, plenty of centres that can fill in there (Williams as well). You suspect they'll be bringing someone in though at some point.

Loader and Ojo to start until Nalaga comes back I imagine

Re: Ransom

Parton could also play on the wing

Clearly, he spilled someone's pint, because there's no rational explanation for that, as far as I can see.

Did great in the Championship last time, and we were already light on wingers. *Sigh*

reminds me of James Short - didn't get much game time with us in the prem before the first relegation as 'he needed to work on his game' (R Whiffin quote).

Following season he's running in tries for fun in Exeter's title winning season.

We either got it wrong, or Chiefs reaped the benefits of our coaching!

On paper we got it wrong. Short was a good player before he came and was a good player after he left and also looked decent in the rare opportunities he got. Sadly, sometimes players just don't gel with teammates or coaches.

Bit early to make too many judgements on Ransom really, but suspect it's a different situation to that with Short, as I'm sure the former could have picked up a contract elsewhere.

Retirement could be partially injury related, due to lack of opportunities, or rugby may not have been his passion/other things he wanted to do with his life.

I look at it as a better option for him. Only guessing mind, but an MBA from Oxford might have more going for it than a year in the Championship. Get a Blue and a varsity match. Best of luck to him.
