He was as destructive as he was idiotic... also seemed to average one silly knock on per game so it was always good when he got it out the way early

The sadness is he could have been a very good player but was a liability spending too much time in the bin for just being a total moron great pity

Sorry to express an opinion about a guy I've seen mainly on the Quins board who sometimes comes on here and pretends to be an Irish fan. Happy New Year and good luck in your push for a top 4 spot

The most consistently effective ball carrier weve ever had...and one of the most destructive tacklers. He won us games (his run to set up the winning penalty against Leinster at the RDS anyone?)

Was too reckless at times but having a player that the opposition are genuinely afraid of gives a team a winning edge, and its been a long time since weve had either.

This is spot on. Other teams were terrified of him. I would love to know our win percentage with him in the side versus without. Im sure there would be a decent disparity.

Sadly I think the referees were also scared of him. I recall him delivering the most amazing hit on a London Welsh player early on in a match at the Kazam. The Welsh guy was literally folded in half and driven back several yards. The referee copped out and gave Chris a red card which pretty much lost us the match. Not surprisingly the red card was turned over by the review panel but the damage had been done by then.

Yep. Horrible game, freezing cold & we missed the first half of England beating the ABs!

Despite being overturned that tackle on the LW guy would probably be red today. It's on the video in the OP @1.24.

Chris was an awesome player, really did intimidate the opposition and was scary with and without the ball. Jon Fisher was on Corbs' podcast a year or two ago telling an amusing story about coming up against him when he was at Northampton and Chris was at London Welsh. Spent the game trying to avoid him as he knew he'd be gunning for him.

Honestly though, some of his offences were real shockers and it did get a bit out of hand. The Olly Morgan one and the one against Racing especially. He could be a bit of a liability at times and would have struggled more if his career happened 10 years later.

As a neutral and after an unfocused quick viewing I would say a fair number of those hits in the video were legal, so doesn't seem a fair title. With that said I wouldn't like to be on the receiving end of them though!

Some of these hits are absolutely barbaric, and you find it hard to reconcile the character on the pitch with the bloke you meet off it.

I was chatting to Chris last summer, discussing my disappointment that my son plays cricket and has no interest in rugby. He was saying that he doesn't want his sons to play rugby because it's too dangerous nowadays!
