Why is Meehan kicking? Heís not a good kicker, Atkins is a better kicker IMO. Give the responsibility to him in the second half

Very impressed with Hepetema at 12, not had a 12 of that calibre since the Maps/Catty era.

Perhaps a niggle in the warm up but not serious enough to withdraw him?

Seem to spend a lot of time in oppo 22 without having a way to get over the line. Same issue as our prem season

Nice. Five points, job done.

Hoskins and Rogerson carried tirelessly. McNally class as per. Meehan and Hepetema both getting better and better, really liked Hepetema's footwork at close quarters. Atkins good. Stephenson and McClean solid/dependable.

Only slight worry was Veotakani. A bit erratic, and you can't have a 15 who seems that unsure under the high ball. Hopefully with more time, more confidence and we'll see the best of him.

Onwards.

Agreed on Freddy. He didnít look comfortable at 15 for me.

Meehan, great with ball in hand but not a great kicker off the tee imo. Atkins should have kicked today.

I'd rather be a Paddy then a Quin!!

C'mon the boys in Green!!

I Thought the first half was the best 40mins of the season, the control and intensity of play were a step up from the games I have seen so far.
Thought the defence was excellent, specially the last ditch stuff.
Atkins was really good at distribution and I agree Tel, Rogerson, Mcnally played very well, I think Schatz had his best game. We made Reds suffer in the scrum all day and they pride themselves on their forwards.
I donít think Meahans kicking is that bad and there is plenty of time to bring in Atkins for kicking as it could have effected his confidence, as it was a crunch game for the season.

Annoyingly Ealing secured a last gasp win BP after being 0 - 7 down at half-time.

Agree about the scrum and Schatz also.

I thought Tempest had a very poor game today, he just let too much go, I don't mind when it's not obvious or if it makes little difference but he never really looked confident at all.
Sad indication of the standard of premiership officials

Thought ref was ok and watched on TV and didnít see a lot he missed?

Hepetema and Stephenson are a good centre pair

Forwards were good but TJ will make us better

Freddie is a 10 and showed a few glimpses today but seems hesitant - early days

I worry we only have 2 hookers - Atkins is good but still young. Hope DP back soon

We still seem to be a very physical team- good in Championship will need more in the Prem

Theyíre probably playing Veitokani at 15 to ease him into a more structured game plan. I doubt heíll spend a lot of time there. Heís a gamble signing Iím guessing, like the Georgian guy we had last season. Worth taking a punt on

Thought all the forwards were fantastic (schatz included who I'm not the biggest fan of) and really like the look of hepetema and Stephenson as a centre partnership.
First 40 minutes was excellent. Intensity, defence and physicality was brilliant.
2nd half very scrappy and lacked the intensity of the first half probably due to the scoreline.

I was very impressed with Hepetema and Stephenson in the centres, both are powerful and elusive runners with some nice skills. Meehan has always been very impressive when I've seen him play, and is often a point of difference especially against the better teams.

The forwards won the game again but it was nice to see some attacking flair as well

The most pleasing part of the game today was the number of times an LI player broke a Jersey tackle and got over the game line.

I'm surprised we actually dominated that game today : I thought Jersey could go very close - beforehand.

Great game all round really enjoyed it. Best complete performance on defence and attack I've seen from Irish this season. The boys looked up for it. If we can bring that same energy with some of strong signings we are rumoured with we could give some prem teams a run for their money next season.

We're definitely moving in the right direction. The backs are running some nice direct lines and getting the forwards into positions where they can cause real damage.

The Jersey backs looked awesome with ball in hand in the second half. We could do with a bit of that flair. It feels like we're putting down some really solid foundations and bringing in players for next season that can add another level.

Williams. How the hell is he that strong?

Agree with ref assessment- thought Tempest was ok and a 5-0 win reflected what I watched. Glad we had a TMO though.

Disagree that Tempest was okay, maybe it's a bit old fashioned but line outs have turned into a "your throw in your ball" as the scrum feed, all of the Reds throw ins were not straight and a few of ours, his management of the off side was awful. This shouldn't all be his fault though as the two flag holders (that is their job by the look of it) did not help him what so ever, the Reds got the ball down over the line from my position it was not clear on the TMO but the flagger was on the spot but didn't commit.

Even though on paper you might be the stronger team, sometimes you play to the level of the the team in front of you. Seen it plenty of times in rugby and other sports. For me, that's happened in a couple of games his year when we've underperformed against some of the teams that we should have beaten more comfortably. That first 40 yesterday was really encouraging as I was expecting a much closer game. It's that level of intensity that we'll need to make the norm for the rest of the season (and more of the same - and better - next year)
