Flannery (forwards coach) and Jones (backs and attack coach) both leaving Munster after turning down new contract offers. A few comments on the Munster forum

One rumour has Felix and Jerry off to London Irish

Not an uninformed rumour either from what i heard .best of luck to them

With the Brad Davies rumour there could be a complete overhaul of the coaching team incoming. Or it could be nothing at all.

That would be a serious coup.

Munster backs hardly set the world alight so not sure Felix Jones is the answer.

I'd be a massive fan of this.

Flannery seems like heís a real old school Ďhard nutí coach, in the mould of Cockers.

Sounds ideal for us, as we have seemed to have a bit of a soft reputation since The Huff left.

Munster's attack is utterly woeful given their roster. Forwards are decent though.

Jones hasnít had much to work with to be fair, the last marquee signing was howlett and that was a long time ago. Theyíve had to make so with scraps, Haley was brought in from Sale and is now first choice 15, theyíve gone from zebo to Haley, quite a step down. Id they had an international centre and full back it would be a very different story for Munster backs.

We need an attack coach who can make a backline greater than the sum of its parts. Unless you think our backline is better than Munster's...

On paper it now is better, thatís a fact. Weíll just have to see what can be done with it. Munsters backline have always punches above their weight over the years but on paper it hasnít always been the best.

Naholo would get in their backline. That's about it, surely?

Overall, Jackson was ahead of carberry when he was in Ireland. We have an issue at 12 but in Rona we have a better attacking threat than Farrell so is a crash ball specialist. Nahalo cancels our earls. On the overall balance, if we can get ours to click I feel it is a better attacking weapon. All depends on what ball they get. Munster backs have always got front foot ball in the past which is why they have looked better than the actually are.

I think that's a touch ambitious, for instance Jackson was ahead of Carbery due to age/development. Carbery is ahead now for sure. I think it's harsh on Farrell but fair enough, opinions and all that.

We had an opportunity with former analyst Richard Whiffin as an attack coach, lost him to Gloucester as an Academy coach, now moving onto Saracens as a backs coach. Coaching effectiveness as an indication of underlying culture and group mindset should not be so readily dismissed it is true.

Iím sure Whiffin has improved over time but he had plenty of time with us and our back play was rank under him. Right decision to move him on.

Sadly, probably true with Dodge as well - though (as with Dec and Kennedy) it would have been interesting to see how they would have developed in a more supportive and less tenuous environment.

Another coach who left LI is Giselle Mather - now DoR for Wasps Ladies and coach for the Women's Barbarians.
