Quinssa coach - lunch en route to Exeter
Safri-quin (IP Logged)

Folks,

any suggestions most welcome. Trying to find a lunch spot for the coach passengers. The should will probably be via M4/M5 and would be keen to stop for a bite close-ish to the stadium.

A pub that serves Real Ale is a must ;-)

Any thoughts?

Take the M3, A303, A30 route - plenty of pubs off the A303. Not sure how they fare though

Go the M3,A303 route, seriously recommended as if the M4/M5 gets a problem (not unknown especially at the junction) there is no alternative and you are stuck. Also The Stoop (presumably the starting point) is very close to the start of the M3, so no journey through or around London.

My extensive knowledge of that route would suggest the Lamb at Hindon, or (and I haven't been there for years) the Bell at Wyley (I think) are nearish half way.

The New Inn, at Coleford. Approx. 45 minutes from Exeter.

I agree M3,A303.

Have a look at www.blueballpub.com/rugby.

See you there.

We live in Dorset so are used to travelling the M3 route to the Stoop, however, feel that the M4 route to Exeter might be your best route!

If you decide on the M4 route look at [www.fivebellsclysthydon.co.uk]

If you decide on the M3 route try [www.jackinthegreen.uk.com]

If you don't like either of these please feel free to email us for further suggestions, my husband is an expert on real ale!!

there is another one at Ide but you might not want to take a coach to the other side of Exeter, but it is called The Poachers if you want to look at it.

Good luck and enjoy - see you all in Exeter smileys with beer

I was told the coach was picking up at Fleet services - so M3 / A303 then? And please, as near to Exe as possible for lunch! Is there a stop on the way back?

Anybody know what time the coach is setting off for this trip?

The last couple of years, before Exe were promoted, we went to the Barn Owl. [www.vintageinn.co.uk]

Decent food and real ale, plus enough room for a coach party. And close enough to the ground. Would recommend.

(We used to go to Monkton Court but there was a change in management and they went downhill.)

Apols, I am obviously the face of the Operations.... Andrew (obv the brains) has confirmed we are travelling via m3 route with a collection at Fleet Services.

Coach will depart Stoop @ 08:30. Will depart Sandy park 17:30

No stop at a pub on the way back - there is a toilet onboard, however we might just slow as we approach Fleet again and open the door...

Does anyone know whether we will be allowed to park at The Stoop, in view of the England game at the Big Stoop?

0830 Stoop - 0900 Fleet Services? I presume we won't be able to park at the Stoop anyway?

I can highly recommend [www.foxandhounds-eastknoyle.co.uk]

5 minute drive south of the 303 at East Knoyle. Fab food, lovely pub and a great pint. We make the journey down to Exeter / Devon all the time and it is pretty much bang on half way (also the best pub we've found)

if you are travelling on coach - you will be able to park at Stoop.

Stewards have been primed to let you in, just mention you are travelling on Quinssa coach.
(If you arrive at 12:00 and try that, methinks they might not let you in...)

indeed, did a Good Pub guide search along the A303 and it came up trumps.
Reckon about an hour and 20-30 from the M25?

From personal experience The Fox & Hounds is recommended.

Have seen coaches stop there before

only drawback with F&H I guess is that we will get there by 10-ish, then have to leave and continue for another 90min - will prob look a little closes to Exeter

I used to use this place back in 1980 when escaping from local(ish) school on Friday/Saturday nights!!

It was good back then, so glad to know that it is still doing well...
