A French Website is carrying the story that we've signed Benjamin Botica for at least the rest of the season.

Who's injured?

Strange. He's listed as a fly half, but I'm unsure why we need half back cover just for the rest of the season anyway. I wonder if he can play hooker!

If he was a longer term signing then I guess that may signal Urdapilleta moving on.

I thought 1st Five was scrum half, and 2nd five was fly half?

I thought they were 10 and 12! Whatever they are it doesn't make a whole lot of sense right now, but maybe the report is simply incorrect or there's more going on that we don't know about.

Kiwi Quinn is now confused as to which is which, so you may be right QP.

Damn colonials! We should never have given them independence!

Well i think there should be a lengthy thread about how badly the squad selection process is being handled and as supporters we demand the right to know. COS out!

From Wikipedia, so it may not be right!

"The positions as named by the International Rugby Board are fullback, wing (left and right), centre (inside and outside), fly-half, scrum-half, number eight, flanker (openside and blindside), lock, hooker and prop (loosehead and tighthead). The names have changed over time and with geography. Early names such as "three quarters" and "out-halves" are still used by some people, while in New Zealand the fly-half and inside centre are called "first-five eighth" and "second-five eighth" respectively, while the scrum-half is known as the half-back. The "tight five" consists of the props, locks and hooker; the "loosies" are the number eight and flankers; the "inside backs" are the scrum-half, fly-half and inside centre; and the "out-side backs" are the outside centre, wings and fullback.

But surely as long as he is a thoroughly decent chap it doesn't matter what he's like on the pitch.

Wiki is correct! Aaron Mauger was a typical "2nd 5/8" for the Kiwis.

Sounds like cover for the run in. Is it confirmed Ben Urdapilleta is going?

Pinch this from another site which seems to confirm the above:

Rugby positions are known by name and number. Here they are with their alternative names in parentheses):

FORWARDS
1 Loosehead prop
2 Hooker
3 Tighthead prop
4 Lock (or second row in some places)
5 Lock
6 Flanker (or wing forward)
7 Flanker
8 Number 8 (or eighth man)

BACKS
9 Scrum half (inside half)
10 Fly half (stand-off or first five-eighth)
11 Inside center (second five-eighth)
12 Outside center (center three-quarter)
13 Wing (winger, Wing three quarter)
14 Wing
15 Fullback

The terms first five-eighth and second five-eighth come from New Zealand. The Scrum Half was considered the 1/2 and the Outside Center the 3/4, so the players in between had to be something else, hence 5/8ths.

According this newspaper he is fly-half playing from november for Perigueux, and Quins have signed him for next season.

Son of a former all-black and playing every weekend as first choice for number 10. Not bad.

Rory is here for a couple more seasons. Benja isn't.

He's Frano Botica's son. Not a bad pedigree.

Perigueux are bottom but he's scored 157 points in thirteen games so it looks like we've got a potentially good goal kicker it nothing else.

Well that has to be good news, as he has got to be better than Benja.

All we need now is

1) A hooker - pronto
2) A proper back up for JJ
3) Another 2nd rower as we are running out, and TV presumably offski at the end of the season.
