Rob Buchanan
The Prof (IP Logged)

It was a phenomenal performance by Rob. Yes there was one bit of confusion at a lineout but not sure it was his fault.

Well done to him. And the rest of the team.

And the coaches, staff, tea ladies, groundsman, uncle to cobley and all

Yes, lineout not the best at times but he's a tank and has a huge heart. Great stuff.

I think my 6 year old son is Rob's biggest fan (ever since he and Sam Twomey joined in a coaching session at Ealing minis.....not that Rob remembered). Rob was a class above everyone at that level and it's great to see him on one of the biggest stages in Europe today (running like a steam train at times).
Mini Pingu is a happy lad tonight...Well done Rob!

I admit to being worried before the match because Rob has seen so little premiership action with the Brooker / Gray rotation, however, I put that behind me now, Rob was awesome. To have that quality player pack down against Brits and oput in the performance he did was truly outstanding. Well done Rob. I hope COS continues his rotation policy with Gray and Buchanan.

TBH Brits is not much of a scrummager, more of an extra loose forward than anything else. Takes nothing away from Rob's superb performance though.

Don't forget Cairns too, he would have been ahead of rob too before he had to retire through injury

Having a first premiership start (I think) in a win, at wembley, in front of 83000 was quite something!

With the injuries to Joe Gray and Brooker it would be sensible to rest Rob for Toulon. Maybe play Aston with Rob on the bench.

He was very very good. Some fantastic work in the loose, pretty solid lineout against one of the best in the premiership. that long through over the top on our 5m line was not his fault I don't think. standard call in that position but for some reason no-one ran off our line to claim it

That is good news. I wasn't expecting Matthews to be back in training until much later, for some reason. If they can all get in a full off-season, they will definitely be fighting for starting places in the autumn.

Oh dear oh dear, when I recently referred to Drunk Care as Drunk Care I received a private message from The Prof telling me this was not to continue and that it was ďvery unpleasant for his family who use this siteĒ.

I replied asking if he would be sending private messages to everyone (including himself) who posts comments in a similar vein which might upset someones family. He of course declined to answer the question but did say that he knew ďa lot more about the situation than you do.Ē I replied saying that he was acting like a pompous hypocrite and he of course banned me saying I had abused him. I had not and this is a lie.

If anyone doubts my word then please send me a private message (or email me at WatchingThePoodle@yahoo.co.uk) and I will happily send you a full copy of the private message correspondence which will prove that Mr Franklin is telling lies. Mind you you will probably need to be quick with private messages because no doubt he will try to hide his behaviour by banning me again as soon as he reads this.

It is of course entirely Mr Franklinís choice as to whether he bans me or not just as it is my choice to believe it is his weak and spineless leadership over the last few years which has tolerated the real serial abusers on this board resulting in so many posters giving it a wide berth and it being held in such contempt by most other rugby boards on Sportnetwork. What I do object to is the lies he tells to justify his actions and the cowardly way he bans people so they canít answer back.

I will leave you with one last thought. Mr Franklin referred to knowing things that I donít. Could it just be that our new Club management have had a word with The Prof and he is now going to start to censor posters that say things that donít meet corporate approval? Sounds very much to me that The Prof has turned into The Poodle.

Pity he didnít turn into someone with some integrity.

(Quick, you better delete this quick Poodle in case people find out what you are really like. Oh wait a moment, it seems itís too late. Other than the usual sycophants here it seems everyone else already does).

Still Watching Ö the hypocritical, lying poodle.

He should turn into a good player. He has a propping background so presumably he's well suited to scrummaging; he looks very good with ball in hand for the A team; he puts himself around the field with a lot of gusto also. I guess it's mainly his lineout work that could be of concern at present, although I thought that was pretty decent last week, especially so considering it was his first AP start.

What a spiteful pathetic post. The team were not great - they are still our team. No one individual deserves to be singled out, and especially not a kid who was playing in his second first xv outing.

Don't forget that Buchanan was up against one hell of a front row yesterday. Hayman was the World's best tight head for quite some time, Bruno is one of the best scrummaging hookers to have played the game and ELR is is very big unit. Add to that a star studded Toulon side and a a hostile atmposphere it was a very difficult scenario to be in.

He will have many better nights in what should be a very long and successful career, but on a night where Quins didn't click (for whatever reason) it is very harsh to criticise him in what was overall a below average performance.

How bad is Rob's shoulder? Given how We're two down already, if it's bad, then can we actually field a full side?

QK, to be honest, I hadn't included Matt Cairns in my count, as a retirement is a different class all together.

But yes, that's my worry that if Joe isn't back to match fitness, and Rob has picked up an injury, then we're close to a position where we can't actually put out a team with two specialist hookers. Given the rules that say in the AP you have to have a complete Front Row on the bench, are we in danger of violating the rules?

FF I'm not sure what the rules say. If it were early in the season, we could probably draft in emergency cover, but who would be available at this point in time? And if they're available, are they likely to be any good?! Agreed, it's a concern.

I know this is dragging up a slightly stale topic but wanted to add my tuppence. Rob Buchanan, for me anyway, is one of the young players who stood out in A league games, along with players like Lowe, Smith, Wallace, Chisolm, Marler..... I always thought however his weakness was throwing at the lineout. Very inconsistent and worried me. I didn't see the Toulon game but thought his throwing was good against Sarries and Wasps (one major communication breakdown v Sarries excepted). He's always been great in the loose and a decent scrummager. Great potential.
