Bad Boy XV

Recently there have been a number of players in trouble with the law or their home unions. I was trying to think what would be the team that would drive the Director of Rugby to drink.

Danny Care - Drunk and disorderly and drink drive etc..
Gavin Henson - Alleged incidents on a flight and train and other issues
Andy Powell - The golf buggy
Delon Armitage - Arrest for alleged assault
Manu Tuilagi - Diving off ferry in NZ

I am sure there are others. But do we have a complete team?

I could easily come up with a whole squad but I'd have to shoot myself...(Sm14)

Matt Stevens, Mike Phillips, Ceri Sweeney, Tom James, Andy Powell, Ben Foden have all had their collars felt.

Hard not to pick Deano and Tom Williams for obvious reasons!

Chris hala'ufia
Maybe Callum Clark?

Ollie Barkley, Mike Tindall, Trevor Brennan, Eddie Halvey, Marc Cecillon, Zac Guildford, Robin Brooke. And most of the Welsh team over the last couple of years.

...Trevor Brennan...

He seems to be a reformed chap now - well, he certainly was when I frequented his pub in Toulouse earlier this season.

But, he was very naughty...

Ricky Nebbitt obviously. That Kiwi who started a fight naked in a bar. In less good taste and less available for selection there was a Saffa who beat someone to death. As a wild card that RL player who liked to find interesting places to put his fingers.

Including a dodgy on-field disciplinary record rather than off-field stuff only, and avoiding anything that's not been proven or reported repeatedly, and not suggesting off-firld criminal offences are equal to being a bit thuggish and/or
cheating, I've got:

Foden (taxi)
Williams (...)
Carling (allegedly could have been hanged for high treason)
Tindall (DUI, twice iirc)
Ashton (Tuilagi and chambermaid)
Barkley (fights)
Care (the list...)
Brennan (fighting the crowd seems to be disapproved of even in France)
Hartley (the list...)
Nebbitt (assault)
Grewcock (on pitch record - second rows seem oddly immune to trouble)
Archer (ditto)
Powell (golf buggy)
Back (although pushing Lander may not be opposed by all)
Richards (the Calcutta Cup story plus the obvious)

Scott Gibbs also for a taxi

I think you'd have to include Skinny Armitage for both on-field and off-field incidents...

Also Short (the Sarries winger) could be one to watch - he looked like he could start a fight on his own in a locked room.

I reckon Cecillon murdering his wife trumps Richards. Just.

not so much a 'bad boy' but probably one of the worst sins to commit on a rugby pitch - "the one-two-stinkaroo" pulled off by John Hopawate - [www.poetv.com]

I'd want him to be in the team just so the other 14 players can have their way with him

And I suppose Duncan McCrae for his attack on O'Gara in 2001. And Schalk Burger... There's probably enough for an on-field vs off-field unpleasantness game.

Throw Harinordiquy in there just so his Dad can come along to spectate and get involved when necessary.

And Steve Diamond has to be front runner to be the DOR

Did time in jail didn't he? On the plus side I think he saved a woman's life, so I reckon we should forgive him his sins!

It sounds like we could - at the least - have a hypothetical Northern hemisphere vs southern game... Anything real would probably see the local hospital testing it's major incident plan.

I don't think anyone's mentioned. Henson obviously. There was a French prop who got banned & went into boxing before dying playing Russian roulette I think. Sad story obviously.

What about Steve Walsh to referee? And sort out the "refreshments" of course (Sm42)

There'd definitely need to be a different version of 'car keys in the bowl' to the usual one (if you don't know, you don't want to) after that game. Or possibly just install some cells at the ground to save time.

He did QP and also broke his neck playing at 21! Broke a guy draw and was banned for 12 months, but an unbelievably good player from what I remember..a definate starter..

I remember the French prop was it Simon or gimbert? They all played for begles I think, shaved heads, used to head but each other before games - basically you could select any French forward from the 70/80's
