Chats With Players & Coaches Yesterday
Cookie 01 October, 2017 11:22
Will Collier says he'll be back next week.

Dave Ward has no idea how the whack in the eye happened, but should be fine for next week.

Nick Evans confirmed we are NOT bringing in any injury cover. Robshaw will be back next week. Bothma a month. Most surprisingly (and welcome) is that they're expecting Wallace back in the early New Year.

Robshaw back next week then off again.

Thought JK said ward did know how it happened?

Any update on James Chisholm?

Sorry Nev, several posters disagree with you and say of course we're after replacements

Just gonna leave this here...

Bedfordshire Boy
Does anybody actually believe that replacements are not being looked in to?

SiBolton
Obviously some do
But you're right of course they are looking,
Speaking to Bothma on Saturday he's hoping for 5/8 weeks before back

Ward says he has no idea how he got his eye injury.JK says he knows exactly how it happened because Ward told him and he believes him.someone is confused and it’s not Ward.Nice to know your coach believes you Wardy.JK also says Sinks scrum cap incident is absolutely not a case of eye gouging.Since it happened at the bottom of a ruck how the hell can he possibly be so certain.
How can the players have any faith with someone who makes so many bizarre comments.

Why is it not Ward?

Well, Ward may know how it happened and he may have told the DOR. Without any proof, it may not be a good idea for him to tell fans/press/casual enquirers how it happened.

I mean if he says "Player X belted me when I was lying in a ruck" and there's no video evidence, then how does that help? With no proof it's just his word against player X.

This is of course assuming that everything Cookie says is 100% true (and I do recall a mention that Mike or DC were definitely heading to France).

At the time of Wallace's injury it was said he would definitely be out for the season; now it seems he may be back much sooner. Time to sack the expert who got it wrong?

Cookie says something that doesn't fit the narrative...

Well, I for one am glad Cookie has passed on what he's learned. As I said, maybe Dave Ward told Cookie the truth, maybe Dave Ward is hiding the truth for some good reason. It's nice to know what he said, anyway.

Nope. People said a dislocated hip was a very serious injury and was likely to keep him out all year. All we know now is they say they’re expecting him in the new year - but we don’t know if it’ll happen until we get there....

Cookie 02 October, 2017 08:00
Wow, QK. Even for you this is pretty over the top.

To clear up the DC/MB situations, I never said they were definitely leaving. I said Danny had been offered a deal at Brive. That the deal didn't happen doesn't make that story false and it came from a reliable source. As did the story about MB possibly going to Leicester, a story that ended up being widely reported. People can choose to believe these stories or not and I don't believe sharing them does any harm. I also reported here the deal that fell apart at the last minute concerning Elton Jantjies - the source (same as the DC story) was considered reliable enough by The Times to put it in their paper.

As for Wallace, I spoke to one of the physios who treated him on the pitch on the day who said 'there was a lot of damage'. I was also at the game with a physio friend who said it could be 4-6 months as a best case scenario. Adding the two pieces of information together felt like a season-ender, but it was obviously guess work.

As for Wardy, and as DOK says, JK suggested in his post match suggested he knew how it happened, but that we weren't interested in taking it further (I would guess because of the lack of evidence). So it served no purpose for DW to say anything other than that.

Quinky Kin 02 October, 2017 09:35
Cookie, I don't doubt what you say. As has been mentioned earlier, it may be that a player says one thing to a coach that they don't feel they should say to a fan. It seems strange to me that somewhere on CAW (I don't have the time to look) a poster takes the stance that JK is being less than honest when he says that he knows how Ward's injury happened. In other words, the comments of a fan (you) can be trusted more than those of the DOR.

Your point about DC and MB is a good example of how things can change, as with the Wallace injury.

I don't know you, as far as I'm aware. I have no reason to doubt you - for all I know, you could be a complete fantasist; God knows there are a few on here. But in all honesty you seem like a sensible poster, if occasionally fractious grinning smiley All in my opinion of course.

In relation to JK and DW, this backs up what DOK and I are saying:

Kingston then rounded on Northampton by drawing attention to the extensive bruising around the left eye of Ward, who was Quins captain in the absence of the concussed James Horwill.

"I have to say, and I'm not here to cast dispersions, but my hooker has got a rather nasty eye and I know how it happened because he's told me and I believe him," Kingston said.

"I'm pretty disappointed about that and he's not happy about it."

When asked if he would refer the incident to Catling, Kingston replied: "No, probably not. It's not about blowing the whistle on people.

"But I do get angst when there's maybe questions over one or two of my players when on the day we did not get the rub of the green in terms of the way things were being done."

So, in other words, we know what happened but we're not in to whistleblowing. Not sure I agree with him as I had a picture taken with Wardy and he wasn't a pretty sight.

(And please, no stupid comments about JK's misuse of English).

Nothing wrong with that, he just dan't want to disperse idle gossip.

Angostura 02 October, 2017 10:11
Just perhaps Wardy doesn't want to tell a fan something and have it immediately plastered all over social media.

I've heard this kind of thing happens!

I must say, it's a pretty odd stance to take from JK. If he feels there has been serious foul play and they think they know when / how it happened, then why not raise it? I suppose, as someone said on another thread, that just be saying what he did say brings it to the attention of a wider audience. Oh well, what's done is done.

Re: Chats With Players & Coaches Yesterday
DOK. 02 October, 2017 11:02
I wouldn't be surprised if JK didn't raise it with Mallinder directly, but in an "off the record you ought to know..." way. There's no mileage in spraying around accusations with no proof.

Maybe JK knew Sinckler was in trouble and wanted to deflect some attention by pointing the finger (pun intended) elsewhere.

Or if he had faith that a citing commissioner would pick up on it. After all, Ward's injury isn't difficult to notice.

Martyrdom has nowt to do with it. You can't even report back from conversations with players now without slinky making sanctimonious remarks.

Yeah I wouldn't put it past him to punch Ward in the face to stop the Kingston out brigade from talking about the match result

He could punch the queen in the face and it wouldn't stop them.

So "narrative" is just one poster now? Come off it, you're positioning you and a few others as swimming against the tide

It was a joke (and not a joke on you).

The obvious answer to the question "What is my narrative?" is ... "You tell me."

I should've put a smiley in there the first time.
