Just arrived at the ground and remembered that I am writing the match report. Bit cooler than down south and showery.

Good start but our scrum is in big trouble.

Re: sale v Quins
DOK. 25 April, 2015 14:20
Cipriani having a good game. Our scrum under pressure but somehow we're retaining possession. George Robson doing a lot of unsung good work.

Re: sale v Quins
FatQuin 25 April, 2015 14:20
Get it in, get it out. We are being annihilated in th scrum. Not a criticism of Shields but he isn't ready for this level yet. Poor bloke. Come on Matt, give em a shove son!

Re: sale v Quins

The Harlequins fans are coming through quite clearly on TV!

Re: sale v Quins
quins4ever 25 April, 2015 14:33
Why oh why is Nev yet again just booting the ball back down the throat of the oppo and letting them run it back , as he had been doing for years?!

Sounds like no kick chase, no touch, no trying to turn the player... Just aimless

Re: sale v Quins
FatQuin 25 April, 2015 14:34
Finally a charge down that goes our way!!!

Re: sale v Quins
DOK. 25 April, 2015 14:34
Try Chris Robshaw! Totally against run of play. Cussiter charged down by Easter. Easter to Care to Robshaw! Easy kick for Nev Sale 3 - 12 Harlequins

Awesome blindside snipe from DC after, prepare yourselves, excellent defensive work from OLH...

Re: sale v Quins

Sale 6 22 Harlequins - Nev bounces it off post and it's half time!

Nice to be guarenteed at least a point by half time!

Re: sale v Quins
FatQuin 25 April, 2015 14:52
Well that was satisfying. Apart from having no scrum, everything else was pretty good. Where has this side been since January?

Re: sale v Quins
MrOther 25 April, 2015 15:06
By my calculation we have to beat them by 8 or more points to go above them in the table (assuming that we don't also let them score four tries).

Win by 8 points =>
same number of league points
same number of wins
same points difference, but
more tries scored.

Win by >8 points =>
same number of league points
same number of wins, but
better points difference.

Is that right? (Had a skinful last night and I'm not sure of my meths (sic).)

Re: sale v Quins
Jayzero 25 April, 2015 15:07
Am I the only one mystified about the knock on that never was earlier in the half? We were penalised for knocking on in the tackle and Barnes went to the TMO to check if it was deliberate only for the footage to show that the ball hit Evans head - Quins regained possession on the floor but despite it not being a knock on at all, Sale got the scrum where the non offense took place.

Re: sale v Quins
Adi Nako 25 April, 2015 15:08
Aren't Sale like 80 or more points ahead of us on points difference?

Re: sale v Quins
FatQuin 25 April, 2015 15:09
Another 3 points to us to start the half.

Re: sale v Quins
Somardino 25 April, 2015 15:17
Prior to this match Sale were 96 points ahead of us on points difference.

It's improbable that we'll be able to close that today, but as every point scored in this match is effectively 'doubled' in that comparative points difference, a big second half would be very useful indeed.

Re: sale v Quins
kickstart 25 April, 2015 15:17
If we win by 47 points we are level with Sale

Let's win first gents.

Re: sale v Quins
FatQuin 25 April, 2015 15:22
Converted try to Sale. Suggest we really stop worrying about points difference for now.

Points difference before the game = Quins -55, Sale +39?
So even if we win by 8pts+ Sale will stay in 7th, Quins 8th

Re: sale v Quins
Tonbridge Quin 25 April, 2015 15:32
Come on guys, dig in, this would be a massive win in relation to the rest of the season

Re: sale v Quins
FatQuin 25 April, 2015 15:32
We seem to have stopped committing men to the ruck and it has gone to pot. God knows what the half time team talk was.

Re: sale v Quins
FatQuin 25 April, 2015 15:40
We have done some fantastic defensive work against their driving maul though.

Re: sale v Quins

Re: sale v Quins
Bolly-Quin 25 April, 2015 15:47
How long to go?

Re: sale v Quins
FatQuin 25 April, 2015 15:48
Less than 5. 18-25

Re: sale v Quins
FatQuin 25 April, 2015 15:48
And ow another try to Sale.

Re: sale v Quins
Jayzero 25 April, 2015 15:49
So a Sale player facing our line drops the ball straight down, right in front of Barnes and he says "backwards" and waves play on. Should have been a scrum to us but it results in a try for Sale. I am beginning to wonder why I watch rugby at all if refferees cannot get even the most basic of descisions right.

Re: sale v Quins
FatQuin 25 April, 2015 15:50
Absolutey appalling. The coaches need to take a lot of the blame for some barmy substitutions though.

Re: sale v Quins

23-25 to Quins. 2 mins to go

Re: sale v Quins
FatQuin 25 April, 2015 15:54
That has to be the most stupid bit of decision making by our players. Just given them possession with not time left.

Re: sale v Quins
Jayzero 25 April, 2015 15:54
Why did we not just kick the points with a minute to go?

Re: sale v Quins
T-Bone 25 April, 2015 15:58
Decision was fine, needed to deny them bonus. Barnes ignoring the massive knock on was the problem

Re: sale v Quins
DOK. 25 April, 2015 15:59
OK - we win 23-25 but what the heck was that? Tackling seemed optional for some players. Thinking was beyond the lot of them.

Re: sale v Quins
FatQuin 25 April, 2015 15:59
We are very very lucky. A great first half ruined by utter stupidity from both players and coaches in the second.

Full credit to Sale for sniffing blood but that second half tells me a lot of our problems are down to attitude.

Re: sale v Quins
SussexMightyQuin 25 April, 2015 16:00
Is that what they call "a game of two halves"??

Re: sale v Quins
Adi Nako 25 April, 2015 16:00
In fairness, I can't see us coming anything other than 8th now. Denying a LBP to Sale was worth the risk of losing the game as it was realistically our best chance of coming 7th.

Should have denied them that anyway - poor second half from Quins. Players wimping out of tackles, not looking after their own ball very well, lazy to the breakdown, and playing like nancy boys at the end.

Yup. I was reading the wrong column.

Good effort to cling on for the win in the end.

Re: sale v Quins

Do the Ref's have to answer for their awful decisions? Luke Pearce last night was as bad for LI as he was for us against Glos - some truely jaw droppingly bad calls!

WTF was that in overtime sat in Richmond watching on my phone while 2nd half kicked off live here. May have suprised a few people here by celebrating when the final whistle final wen up there.

Re: sale v Quins
Tonbridge Quin 25 April, 2015 16:02
Can anyone shed any light on what happened in the second half? I've just been relying on the updates from you guys

Re: sale v Quins
T-Bone 25 April, 2015 16:04
Was watching on a very poor stream so might be wrong but at the end, they seemed to deliberately knock on and sir ways play on. Earlier, ball off nev's head and he checks for deliberate knock on.

Second half defence was woeful though

Re: sale v Quins
FatQuin 25 April, 2015 16:04
Lack of accuracy, not enough hitting up at the rucks, silly subs, poor kicking from hand, srrogant decision making. I could go on TQ but I am fuming!

Re: sale v Quins
The Kid 25 April, 2015 16:07
We really need to look at our game management in the offseason and how we approach closing matches out. It's been a huge issue all year and nearly cost us again. Seems like it doesn't matter who the captain is...

Re: sale v Quins
Tonbridge Quin 25 April, 2015 16:08
Looking at that glad I wasn't watching live. Really grateful for the win but worrying going into the next game. We don't seem to have the savvy to close out a game we're winning
