My apologies to gregory p for the time taken to produce his report. It's here now though and well worth the read!

"a good advert for the game – but the game was rugby league."

"My rugby league mate from half time left on the basis that the pub was going to be more entertaining "

I suspect being a leaguer he did not see the irony that, had RU not been so obsessed with copying league we would have seen more running in space, more breaks, more fluent passing moves, fewer pointless midfield collisions, fewer obstructions and fewer injury stoppages?

Another entertaining read but have to take you to task for "the best ground in the premiership", a great setting but I always seem to end up soaking wet watching games out in the open at The Rec.

You're right about the stands as my wife kept telling me very loudly that she was very glad that it wasn't raining.

PGT - I use the comparison to RL flippantly as it's not my favourite game to watch either, albeit it's no less skilful or hard than RU. Our lawmakers seemed to be driven - allegedly by the Australian input - to make the game more like RL and, you're right, it has suffered I think. Mostly I miss the frequency with which possession used to change hands and the resulting broken play.

Well, maybe we could limit how long a team can keep the ball. Say it has to change after 6 tackles? smiling smiley

Guffaw!

Just putting the ball in to the scrums straight would be a start.

Far too difficult to check that for it ever to be viable, you will expect a throw-in to the line out to be straight next.
