New Stadium Announcer

Now I know this is a sensitive topic (no doubt bound to raise calls to "Bring Back Max!"), but I just saw a tweet from Nick Heath who did the announcing at The Stoop for us last season saying that he's not going to be doing it this season. It's not clear if he's leaving or the club have chosen someone else. I thought he was fine as an announcer, and it's a shame he's going. However, he's also done a lot of commentary for BT and Radio, so it may be that he sees that as where his future lies.

Be careful.

Last time I made a negative comment about Max I got a PM from him.

He doesn't seem to be comfortable with criticism. (Oh no! See what I've done now?)

Uh oh ... Mr. Ellis will have been advertising the job to football announcers in Manchester who are available at cut-price rates ...

Nick has followed up with replies to some of us who have tweeted to him, saying that it was his decision due to other work commitments doing commentary that he chose to leave (not fired). Also, he knows the person who will be replacing him and "you're in safe hands I can assure you", that the club have "Got a good chap in behind me", "You're getting another good rugby man in my place, trust me.", and "A Quins fan too, You're in safe hands".

"You're getting another good rugby man in my place, trust me."

In my opinion that is based upon a false premise. I didn't like him. I didn't think he was a good rugby man.

He was another Mr Shouty, as far as I am concerned.

I liked him and I'm encouraged by what he says. Hopefully the management has learned from their past mistakes that Northerner wendyball announcers aren't appropriate for Quins, exspecially when they can't pronounce our team's surnames or know who's being replaced by whom without being told by one of the staff.

Good. No chance of Mad Max being inflicted on us again.

Or maybe it will be someone good. But let's not bother waiting to find out before criticising, eh?

Call me old fashioned, but I prefer to criticise people for their actions, not the actions that I think they may do in future based upon my perception of what they've done in the past. But that's just me.

How anyone cares or notices who does the announcing escapes me but I'm sure they'll be able to read out the score and say "come on you quins" before each restart so that'll do it.

Are you serious? The 2 x Manc idiots we had

a/ were way too shouty
b/ clueless about the game (one making an announcement when NEv was lining up a kick)
c/ had no idea of players names
d/ didn't know the name of the ground (the Snoop)
e/ didn't know the name of the club (THE Harlequins, Harleeeyqueeeens)

The bloke last season was OK but a bit shouty, the bloke the 2 seasons before was good IMHO!

Well ok, I did notice them because they were laughable and intruded, you're right. But they weren't there long, others have all been interchangeable and fine.

I'm the same. I thought Nick Heath was very good.

The Harley-Quin announcer was awful.

We're well prepared for Americanisation -- in the NFL our anagrams would be actual player names, and among the more sensible ones....

Interesting point that blucherquin. About being ready for change and all that. Its not so long since the crowd at The Stoop were often accused of being too quiet but these days both our own and opposition players remark on how loud and proud the Stoopers can be!

Making anagrams out of players names is a thing on the board.

June Porno Salad for example.

Our anagrams are less ludicrous than the actual names of NFL players...

Here, for only a small example, are some real names from this year's NFL draft...

Taco Charlton (could be a partner for our own Nacho Gimp Owls)
Teez Tabor
Takkarist McKinley
Corn Elder
Dawuane Smoot
JuJu Smith-Schuster

We just need to find a Jimmy Changa, Beef Tostada, and Kasey Dealer and we're sorted!

Yes, sounds like a good option.
I had a giggle when I saw a comment on Twitter by a "fan".

But, I wasn't sure what stock phrase I should use:

JK must go

So I went with the jk one

If by rumours you mean the club's press release and interview with the new announcer - then yes.
