Quins site is a little clearer - postponement is due to injuries within the Bath squad

So we wait until they're back to decent strength, meanwhile we've been playing with guests on the bench?

Yes, this does seem a little odd - considering that it is a competition, then we should be awarded the points shouldn't we?
I think its a shame that the match actually didn't happen. I know that it can be tough to field a team when you have injuries, but people like Visser need game time. I still think that one of our shortcomings last Saturday was due to not having an league game the week before.
Sometimes, I think that these a league games are a good time to access 'guest' players as well. We often seem to use guests from Ealing. I often wonder if there is an option that these guys could fill in as bench cover for a full match at some point.

I imagine Quins are more concerned with getting a meaningful game than winning A league points. Not sure how many Bath had missing, but if it meant they'd field a side with so many guest players they'd have no time to be coached, would it benefit us much? A couple on the bench is one thing, but a completely scratch side is pointless.

I guess you could give us the league points but replay it later anyway. We'd probably have had to play guests in the back row

They should be fined at least 5 premiership league points, this season and next.

Well quite. Let's just hire fewer players worth more money on average and shirk our contracted responsibilities too.

Is there an obligation to be in the 'A' league? Or is it voluntary?

If you look at the corresponding thread on the Bath page, someone has dug out the Playing Criteria for clubs from the 2012/13 season, and it was an obligation then, and I see little reason why it would've been changed since...

If it is an obligation then there must be some sort of sanction if a team doesn’t fulfill its fixtures.

Otherwise as suggested it’s a neat little way around the salary cap.

Couple of points - from someone who doesn't particularly care - but is a Bath fan.

Our senior squad is 43, which puts us about 5th in terms of squad size in the Prem. Around 18 of those 43 are injured.

In our A-league match against Saracens a few weeks ago, 11 of our 23 came from Bath University - we've had more injuries since then.

As I understand it, the problem is at THP; where we're without Thomas, Lahiff, Knight, Palmer-Newport and Mitchell (acutally, I think Thomas is finally back).

To put out a team for the A-league there would be more guests than holders of Bath contracts.

This is a postponement - to be played later, and done with Quin's agreement. If the postponement never happens, then we forfeit and you get 5 points whilst we get none. Had Quins not agreed to the postponement, Bath would have forfeited the match.

We do have an agreement with Bath Uni to borrow their players for the A-league (and generally use the A-league to scout for Uni players that have been missed by the talent scouts) - but I believe that avenue is unavailable this week.
To put a team out, we'd have to borrow players from local clubs - which would, quite honestly, be dangerous in the fron row - and... unpleasant for everyone. Nobody would get anything much out of a Professionals vs Amateurs match

All makes sense. Not sure why people are getting so fussed.

To preserve the integrity of the competition, though (and without anyone suggesting for a moment that amateurs should be drafted in to play against professionals that point is well made) surely what should happen is that Quins should be awarded 5 points, but the match rescheduled for a later date with no league points riding on the outcome ...?

As WT said, it was only able to be postponed with Quins' agreement. So we could have taken the points if we wanted.

Are you seriously not including your academy in a conversation about an A League game?

"Since May, only James Phillips and Anthony Perenise have been brought in as permanent signings, meaning Baths senior squad and senior academy combined is 55 players, one of the smallest."

The Chronicle article above outlines just why Bath Utd are having these issues.
