So all a coach has to do to be more competent is talk frequently into a walkie-talkie and be good in front of a camera?

The Tigers and Saints games have been close where Quins could have won but it was them who scored towards the end and not Quins. Its all pretty close at the moment, fine margains and all that. We need to give JK up to the end of December and see how we are. Have our new signings stepped in and been good enough for cover when our internationals werent available? We'll see.

JK and his coaches are taking us nowhere. We are now a confirmed mediocre, inconsistent rabble who talk as if they are the best club in the World.
It would be laughable if it wasn't so annoying!!
Luckily there appears to be at least two terrible teams so we should be able to stay up.

As COS always said, nothing is won or lost at this stage of the season.

QK, I hope think you'll find that it is more than possible to lose the title at this stage.
We are already 9 points behind the leaders and given our results recently, it won't be too long before we are way, way behind.

And it's to his great shame that he hasn't penned personal notes to us all on this matter. Baxter would have written his notes in glitter ink. Even Cockerill would have put a paw print next to his signature to show that his 10 year old ginger tom was also thinking of us.

Hopefully we will - we've only had a few minutes of Catrikilis so far and neither Bothma nor Saili have played yet.

Glynn's had more game time than I'd have liked, though.

Since the title is decided from the top four spots at the end of the regular season, it's also possible that we could win it again.

Given that there's only one title and 12 challengers, I'm going to confidently predict that there will be 11 teams who don't win it. I'm also sure that the winner won't be chosen on the basis of a small number of games; in fact, it will be more about their results over 22 games, then for the best 4 teams it will come down to how the fare over two further games.

But hey, let's judge our future games on how many points we get from games in which we were bringing through academy guys due to being shorn of 22 players.

Of course you can as anyone knows only one team can win it. The problem is that we aren't going to go on a massive winning run are we. If we do I will be the first to admit I was wrong.
You mention the injured 22 - this surely has to be a conditioning or over training problem.

Drop players who constantly give away needless penalties? Drop players who can't perform their basic tasks properly?

I didn't expect us to win, which is the sad thing. I didn't expect us to beat a team we finished above last season. A lot of fans are fine with that. Some of us aren't. I enjoy my trips to the rugby more or less regardless of the result, it's just a shame that there are plenty of games I don't expect us to win, where not getting jumped is seen as an achievement in itself

If they lose another bunch of games there will undoubtedly be calls for his head from some fans. Fans can be very fickle and some can think they're owed success of their own determination.

Re: JK Out
Mayor West 01 October, 2017 17:45
Mallinder was in trouble last season, he stayed and turned it round. First game excepted. I suppose JK's situation isn't quite the same. Cockers got the chop, normal service resumed at Tigers after a wobble. No change at Gloucester. Twist or stick. It must be tough knowing that your future could be determined by a couple of poor ref descisions.

In all the time Mark Evans dragged us from the 19th to the 21st century, ticket sales, season tickets and concession income went up year after year. Not everyone comes to watch Harlequins pick up silverware, lots of people are looking for entertainment, fresh air, a good family day out and if that doesn't include a Harlequins win then they can live with that.

Re: JK Out
Quinky Kin 02 October, 2017 13:36

I do think it's ok to voice concern and frustration before we are mathematically out of the hunt for the Premiership and/or Champions Cup.

Fiddling while Rome burns and all that. There is a balance.

But I similarly don't think the last 2 results are worthy of an apocalyptic response, albeit we seem to keep making the same mistakes over and over. The Irish result still rankles, but there has been a lot to like since even if we are now W2 L3.

Indeed Cookie. For a while now there have been posters claiming that we don't have to win every game, we just have to play a lot better. In the past couple of games - which we could easily have won but for a few decisions - I've seen some very good rugby. Not for 80 minutes, but definitely an improvement. Add to that the squad we had for Saturday and I'd say we did a lot better than expected.

As for Rome, it wasn't built in a day...

Re: JK Out
DOK. 02 October, 2017 16:35
I was expecting a lot worse from a scratch squad like that. It's not just the number of players out, but the quality of them. Jamie Roberts said we should have won that, and he was right. We conspired to defeat ourselves (thanks Merrick!), but our team was certainly competitive.

Re: JK Out
Quinky Kin 02 October, 2017 16:52
As I mentioned elsewhere DOK, some players really stood up to be counted. Ironically it was particularly the younger guys - Smith, White, Lamb - who caught the eye. Roberts had a strong game too.

Re: JK Out
Cookie 02 October, 2017 17:20
Not sure Lamb's 9 mins were anything to write home about. But fair play to White - didn't realise he'd come on as early as he did, although White only managed one tackle.

But it proves the Ben Glynn at 6 experiment needs to be ended.

Also worrying that Clifford missed 5 tackles in the game. It's becoming a bit of a trend.

I've only seen the highlights, but saw couple of great carries from Lambert, then a fairly weak effort (along with a few others) to stop North's try. What the highlights didn't show was scrums, so can't comment on that.

They don't have a full section on the website (as yet) but they do have a Facebook page. Personally, I'd like the club to set up a proper subsection on the quins.co.uk site for the womens' team, with a fixture list, news, and player profiles.

Re: JK Out
GP2110 03 October, 2017 16:14
The FB page is interesting.

It has 679 followers. The men's page has 105,354 followers.

Whilst I have nothing against women's sport, I find it baffling how much the media is trying to push it when the vast majority of people have very little or no interest.

Manchester United, for example, do not have a women's team because their analysis shows that it would draw less interest than the youth teams. It (i) does not generate any substantial revenue; (ii) does mot enhance the brand; and (iii) costs a lot of money to maintain.

Given how much money MU has (just as an example) compared to Quins, I wonder how much Quins actually spend on the Women's game and what, if anything, the clubs gets in return.

I know our game was the first of the new Prem to be live streamed (I am pretty sure that some are being shown live on Sky or BT). Nearly 53,000 watched the stream which is not bad. While I do not see it being bigger than the mens game (that being true for cricket, football and rugby) I can see them being big enough to financial viable. The cricket womens world cup got a full house at Lords in the summer, the Womens football is getting decent crowds for internationals and also the cup final.

According to [rugby.statbunker.com]

(which was the first website I found from a quick google), the average attendance across the Womens Six Nations 2016 was 3,290. I struggle to see how that is viable.

I would very much like to know the average attendance for a Quins' Ladies games.

Re: JK Out

At the moment I would guess that sponsorship and TV money would account for most of the revenue for the womens game rather than bodies through the gate (although that would need to improve). In terms of the leagues (cricket, football and rugby) rugby is very much a new competition (the first season is only 3 games old!!). I am not even sure that quins charge to attend games at SSP. Not being involved at Quins (So I am guessing here) that the club are looking to get in on the action from the outset, in the hope/expectation that the womens game will only get stronger/bigger.

Sponsorship and TV money account for most the revenue for the men's game too to be fair.

The RFU gave a big chunk of money to help set up the new league, so not sure what the financial burden is on the clubs. I'm pretty sure that the players are still amateur, just benefitting from a more professional set up. Am I right in thinking that? (other than the contracted England players). So other than Quins plugging it via social media, not sure if there's that much cost to Quins at the moment, so I guess it's win/win for the club until they have to start paying the players. Could be completely wrong, but that was my understanding from various different things I've read.

In terms of the numbers watching the stream, is there any way of telling how many watched the whole game? I watched for a bit but then stopped (as I had something else to do, not due to the quality). Not making any point, just wondered if there's a way of telling?

Not making any point, just wondered if there's a way of telling?

if true that there is no little or no financial burden on the club, then I tend to agree that it is win / win for the club. I think my irk is that I feel that women's sport (not just rugby) is slowly being forced more and more upon us in many cases.
