Depends how long till Chisholm is back (We know Bothma is still a few weeks away). Could be a case of Clifford out, Chisholm back.

Nearly messed that up :-o good result in the end 42-26
Visser must have answered his critics, involved all night and 2 tries :-)
The injury situation is getting ridiculous.
Nothing to do with the match but I can confirm that the chish and fips is excellent, if a bit pricey (like everything else in the ground)

Great win, great attitude. Can't complain - Sale scored plenty but we were weakened at the start and then ravaged by injury during the game. Some quality tries and real heart. Well done lads.

Yes, that was very satisfying/reassuring. From the first play from the kickoff, that chip over the advancing defensive line, it was smart from the off.

I think JK is using his players wisely. Who said they spoke to Visser and said he wasnt happy? I think that was BS. Game to game management. Its a marathon not a sprint

Re: Match Thread Quins v Sale
Dave L 06 October, 2017 22:39
Most satisfactory result. Some superb back play, Smith looking the part and the rest of the back line really seemed to be gelling. Care throwing the intercept was the only real mindless stuff, we just seemed much more sensible this week.

Shame about the injuries, a beyond ridiculous number of players out.

We could add that to the list of punished offences: flicking water, pushing, being strangled...

Visser could well have not been happy. Walker owned the shirt and then went out with concussion so Cisser got picked: if this made Visser play better then maybe JK knows what he’s doing.

In the best way possible, he reminds me of Cipriani pretty horror injury. The confidence of youth and the ability to back it up.

But there will be some chastening days ahead for him (which he needs for his development) and he needs careful management to keep him grounded.

For such a small player he also doesn't fear getting stuck in, which is nice to see!

Great game last night but there's a little bit of me that feels Sale flattered us a bit. That's not to take anything away from the team, there were passages of absolute brilliance. BUT we STILL suffer from multiple brain-farts that give the oppo possession, luzz the ball about like the Harlem Globetrotters with limited success and our tackling is still patchy in places. It feels that the squad are really gelling now, but other teams - top 4 teams - would have put that game well and truly to bed by 50 minutes, yet we always seemed to look *this* close to letting it unravel. Nice work lads, but let's build on that and improve now.

Last word on Visser - nice to see him playing his usual brand of rugby. I know it's only fair that the incumbent should keep the shirt, but Visser proved last night that he really is miles ahead of Walker.

Yes, fair play to JK. If the buck stops with him for the krap stuff, he’s also due the plaudits for a fine win.

Marcus Smith was outstanding and I like the way he tackles (not especially yesterday, but in general).

Visser looked up for it after a while on the sidelines. Whether that was cunning management or pure chance, I don’t know but it worked.

And some of Danny Care’s kicking was glorious.

The Grauniad is saying that Sale’s first try came about “when Mike Haley evaded Chris Robshaw’s tackle a little too easily“. Is that right? I saw him dance through a couple, but did Robshaw miss an easy tackle? Seems unlikely.

I thought the 2 locks were excellent last night, 100% in the lineout, Mathews play in the loose was really good some great clearing out by Merrick, the right way, a try saving tackle against the big Russian by Merrick and 2 great intercepts by Mathews, both lasted the 80 mins really well without any meaningful cover on the bench

Re: Match Thread Quins v Sale
Quinten Poulsen 07 October, 2017 10:33
Matthews called the lineout very well, and yep he had a great all round game.

Re: Match Thread Quins v Sale
Rocker 07 October, 2017 10:34
Yes line out was much improved, mathews still looks like a giraffe when he runs but I guess that's just his shape. Merrick was busy hitting rucks and making a nuisance of himself. I think that they are a good pairing, horwill is obviously better than merrick for now, but if merrick continues to improve?

Re: Match Thread Quins v Sale
DOK. 07 October, 2017 10:58
Did they throw to anyone but Matthews all night? He did damned well considering they knew where the ball was going but couldn't stop him. Kudos to the thrower too. Ward seems to have sorted the wild throws of the previous game.

Re: Match Thread Quins v Sale
QuinAlan 07 October, 2017 11:09
Sale lineout is the worst in the Prem this year, that might have helped. But yep a very impressive game by Matthews. How good is Visser at receiving & scoring from cross field kicks! Cant remember anyone better & with Smith being a particularly skillful supplier this bodes well. Another sound game by Smith who know has firm hold on the 10 jersey. Good win to calm the narves. Thanks JK.

Re: Match Thread Quins v Sale

I was a little surprised that Sir didn't check with the TMO to see if Yarde had touched down the ball at the end of the first half. I sit I the south stand so obviously couldn't see. But, was the ball clearly held up?

Re: Match Thread Quins v Sale
Quins4life 07 October, 2017 11:18
Considering the two teams out on the pitch we did great to get the win. Missing a number of 1st XV players against a more or less full strength Sale team and winning pretty comfortably is no mean feat. With a bit more luck and composure we could have easily had one more win, if not two. Thought Matthews was outstanding all over the pitch. Care playing his best rugby for a long time, I actually think in terms of his all round game he could be surpassing his best ever.

But one man who has got a lot of stick for us, and rightly so in the past, Roberts has been fantastic. I don't think you can underestimate to support he is giving to Smith, especially in defence. Smiths defence isn't bad but Roberts is always there sweeping up the mess if needed. Also he looks hungry and aggressive in attack. We all can't wait to see Saili fit and firing but he is going to have to make a huge impact to break the Roberts/Marchant combo I think
