Did they throw to anyone but Matthews all night? He did damned well considering they knew where the ball was going but couldn't stop him. Kudos to the thrower too. Ward seems to have sorted the wild throws of the previous game.

I suspect that having Matthews, who's our one fit lineout specialist, calling it will have made a big difference to the throwing.

Still a lot to work on, especially in defence, but the breakdown was better and the whole attitude in attack is just wonderful with Smith running the show. He just lifts the whole team. A tiny bit more judgement in the champagne passes and we're going to be very hard to stop when we have the ball.

Did anyone else see Wardy rehearsing throw ins before the game last night from a kneeling position?

Are you sure he was kneeling?

Probably best game ever for Charlie Matthews in my opinion.

Certainly in recent memory. A few years back he really looked like he was going somewhere, then he kind of stalled. But he had his mojo back in that game for sure.

Just wanted to agree with the praise for Matthews. I've been a fairly harsh critic of his at times, but only because I was yearning for him to fulfil his obvious potential. Last night he did.

More of the please Charlie.

Actually you're right! He was standing in a hole.

Dunno, the wasps HEC game at Adams park a few years back (their last game before moving?) he was incredible, but certainly right up there.

Bit late to be posting this, but really pleased to see a decent performance. It was a great team performance as well as there being plenty of very impressive individual performances.

It was frustrating to let them get back in to the match and score 4 tries, but perhaps understandable given the changes we had to make.

As others have said, Care, Smith, Visser and Matthews all very good. Smith really does look like the real deal.

Such a shame for Clifford. Apparently Collier is not too bad thankfully.

I've not been a fan of Roberts during most of his time with us, but he is playing very well this season.

Couldn't really see what Swiel was carded for. Also, Sale's fourth try, couldn't see from the replay that the ball had touched the post. Looked completely inconclusive to me. Did he ask "try or no try" or "any reason I can't award"?

Still some needless errors, but generally very positive and hopefully we can back it up, rather than carrying on swapping wins and losses.

He asked the any reason one (unfortunately) .

Fair enough. Seems odd, as it looked to me like he was held up short, and the attacking player got his own body in between the ball and posts, but maybe other replays / angles show he got there

I don’t think the replays showed that he got there, but they also didn’t reveal conclusively that he hadn’t. If the ref had asked the other question, it would have been no try. Galling.

Annoyed I missed this one (although not THAT annoyed as I was in Peru).

Sounds (and looks from the highlights) like a very good performance only slightly marred by us switching off a bit in the second half.

Admittedly everyone beats Sale at home, but with our injuries and off the back of two relatively poor performances, this was a big result.

For those who saw the game in full, did it point to any longer term conclusions/improvements, or are we still just completely random?
